drumlins4ever:Would "what HiFi" be willing to take part in the JREF challenge ?

May I ask what cables you use drumlins, and why?

I forget the name and brand of my own interconnects but they are well made and were not too expensive. bought 2nd hand too. they should last me a long time.

The silver speaker cable is made by monitor audio , the reason i use it is because it was given to me by a member of family for free and it appears to be well made.

So presumably as you clearly think speaker cables (interconnects too?) make NO difference then it would be cool for me to go buy some 'gale' speaker cable from richer sounds and drive down and swop them for yours then?

Interconnects too if you feel they make no difference either?

Those that loudly proclaim they won't take the challenge generally do so because they fear they will fail. The gravy train that they help to run would then swiftly become derailed.

You're late. We've done all that already.

As I said, that nonsensical self-fulfilling logic is akin to "If she floats, she's a witch, and we burn her; if she drowns, she's innocent"

And as for your accusation of helping to run the gravy train, care to elucidate? Using, of course, this platform provided for you by the very people you seem to hold in such contempt?

Like I said, I would rather the BSI or some such got involved. This for me would take away the subjectivity. Also, they are not consultants who need the hifi industry to earn a living. I haven't been through the Russ Andrews research papers. I have noted in their introductions though that they set out to prove the assertion that Russ Andrews products do what they say they do. As my electrical knowledge is incredibly limited, I am not in a position to say whether or not they achieve this by valid methods, nor whether any differences measured are even perceptible to humans.

As for how I chose my own cables, I just looked for well made cables that provide as follows:

Interconnects - lowest capacitance with shielding that does the job

Speaker cables - highest conductivity, i.e. lowest resistance I can find. The larger the wire, the lower the resistance, the higher the conductivity. High purity copper - 99.99999999% OFC etc.

There are respected speaker manufacturers who just don't take expensive cable seriously. Are they wrong to feel this way?

How can you take the subjectivity out of it? The subjectivity is the joy of this whole hobby and the very reason for its existence (music) is completely tied up with subjectivity.

It is because hi-fi and music are subjective that nobody is wrong whether they feel cables make any difference or not.

I wasn't thinking of you or What Hifi, I was thinking of that Pear cable guy. What makes you think I hold you in contempt? Should I?

Perhaps the fact no-one had mentioned the Pear Cable person until you just did, and I had been talking about having no desire to take the test just a few posts before.

Frankly your continual innuendos are getting very tiresome - but then I think we've been here before, haven't we...?

This is getting rather heated....

There is only one kind of blind test which matters - the one where you close your eyes and use those pinky things on the sides of your head.

Theres a lot of pots here are'nt there?

How quickly we forget, or think these things dont apply to us, because we're so superior.

Still, quite amusing to see people accuse people of things they have done a few days before.
