Why is WHF interested in iPhone but not bothered about Nokia?

perhaps nokia don't dish out so many perks..

But it was a big microsoft/nokia/motorola event - should have at least been mentioned.

In a million years, when alien archaeologists come to this planet, all that they will find of our civilisation is Nokia 3210s. The hardest substance ever created.

Interesting to note that the new Nokias launched only yesterday has no mention in the news section, while the rumours of upcoming iPhone 5 have been published today....

the cynic in me might say there is a very lucrative market, including advertising, in iphone docks and audio hardware that connects to iphones.... Heaven forbid somebody tried to promote an alternative 😉

The cynic in you might just be overthinking things.

TBH, having looked at all the Nokia press material, it all seems very much US-focused, though I gather they (or Microsoft) did take some European journalists to New York to cover the event. Whereas the Apple launch is very much a global announcement, with events being held around the world.

Or something like that...

But the info is all over the net, not really an excuse for not covering it, where as the apple event so far is all rumour and heresay, yet still gets coverage. No wonder apple do so well when people are willing to hype it for them...

also worth saying, my orginal post was meant to be tongue in cheek - I think we need a dedicated smiley for that, makes it easier 🙂

Clearly yet more evidence that Apple has a stranglehold on the world's media and further proof that WHF is completely staffed by Apple Fanboys and nothing at all to do with the fact that the guys at Cupertino have changed the world of recorded music forever. The iPhone event is likely to include new iPods - music players not phones - and therefore naturally of more interest than the Nokia announcement. |(

Surely if it's all over the net, there's less reason for covering it? 😉

 touche

however I think that it's worth covering as it's a nice looking bit of kit, and I'm sure people would like whf's take on it, otherwise you will end up coming over as apple only, even if you aren't.

So if you were running a mag and and web page, your mortgage depended on it, where would you send your journalists? To the event guaranteed to get page clicks and sell mags, or to the event you weren't invited to that, to be frank, no one really seems to care about? Think carefully, could be a chilly winter if you get it wrong...

And I am sure when we have a chance to get our hands on the product, rather than just reading the same press handouts being retreaded all over the Internet, we will have a take on the new phones and their operating system, and how well they play music and video, which is really what we're all about.

Probably not the place to mention that I am looking forward to the iPhone 5, iPad Mini (maybe) event on Sept 12th.

I don't normally give a rat's ....* about Apple events, but this time there might be something I am very interested in buying. (The iPad Mini.)

If it is indeed a reality rather than a rumour, and if it has a 7" (ish) screen, and if it is cheaper (£100 less ideally) than the iPad, then I will be buying one.

*I have an iPhone 4 that is now bordering on being a historical artefact and an iMac that is 5 years old (archeological in computer terms). So I am hardly a 'fanboy'.

You are compared to me, never owned an iThing, never will, won't have iTunes in the house (hatehatehate!).

nice to hear 🙂

but you will be covering the apple event won't you? I only ask because if you are, it kind of debunks what you just said. If you aren't then apologies.

Yes, because the Apple events generally give the attendees a chance to handle the the new products and be in a position to offer an opinion – albeit an early one – on them.
