*I have an iPhone 4 that is now bordering on being a historical artefact and an iMac that is 5 years old (archeological in computer terms). So I am hardly a 'fanboy'.

You are compared to me, never owned an iThing, never will, won't have iTunes in the house (hatehatehate!).

Well, I have two Dell Latitude business laptops (one bought in February and the other one four years old and retired from work use but still performing well) and a recent(ish) Dell Vostro PC as well as the iMac.

I also have a Sony Ericsson K750i phone (dated as 'Triassic' but still mint and working fine) as a backup.

So am I forgiven?

(Don't mention the AirPort Extreme 802.11n or AirPlay. I almost did but I think I got away with it.)

I've got 18 months left on my iPhone 4S contract so I'm trying to ignore the new iPhone 5 launch as much as I can lol, unless Carphone Warehouse/T-Mobile make me an offer I can't refuse (unlikely!).

As for Apple having some kind of technology monopoly...well here's to the new boss, that's what I say. Micro$oft had a monopoly on IT for over 25 years. If you chose to use something other than a PC running Windows you were seen as either a geek or a leper, and your choice of apps (or 'software programs' as we called them then) was limited virtually to donationware developed by teenage lads in their bedroom found either on floppy discs on the front of niche-market computer mags or on 'alt.binaries' usenet BBS's.

That was in June, when everyone knew Windows 8 phones are coming & the current phones won't be able to upgrade to the new OS.

Apparently thats not true no more, i was reading during the week that microsoft have now comfirmed that all current windows phones will be able to upgrade to windows 8. Windows 7.8 you will not be able to make an in app purchase but will be able to on a 7.5 ( what ever that means )

See i have taken a big interest in Window phone lately as i have been a big Apple Fan for along time now but have been getting bored of the iOS and my ear being cooked badley and the not having a good signal where i live , so i purchased a Nokia Lumia 800 for £160 of eBay just for a try and i think its great. So this has left me with a unhealthy interest in Nokia windows phones now, the only downside is the lack of quality Apps like Sky Go and Sky+ and a few others that i use on the iPhone but i hope this all changes when Windows 8 is released.

We're rather snowed-under in the final throes of Awards testing at the moment so merely a matter of prioritising!

It would be an understatement (of gargantuan proportions) to say that we see more interest on the site in the iPhone compared to anything Nokia. And yet we do cover them:

http://www.whathifi.com/news/mwc-nokia-808-pureview-offers-dolby-headphone-surround-sound-and-41-mp-camera

And for the record, a quick scan around WHF Towers shows that we're about 50/50 in terms of iPhone and non-iPhone users. There are a few HTC handsets, a couple of Samsung phones and even a trusty (very) old... Nokia. :)

Read the bottom of your own link after the video. It only refers to app compatability not the new version of the operating system.

Existing windows phones will NOT be upgradable to windows 8

Originally mango was not coming out on the lumia 800 but they had to in the end

But this time it's different. You need a multicore phone for Windows 8. Current phones are not capable of running it properly. It's a hardware limitation.
