Top 5 foreign films?

I am ashamed to say that although I'm a big fan of French cinema, I have not seen Jean de Florette or Manon des Sources - something I will remedy as soon as possible!

You're not missing a lot. In all honesty, you might get more enjoyment out of reading the books the films are based on.

Those 2 films really aren't "classic" movies in the most artistic sense. Sames goes for Le Grand Bleu (The Big Blue), Subway, Taxi, etc. They're all very over-rated I think.

For some real classics check out some of Truffaut's works and his "New Wave" contemporaries.

Purely my opinion of course.

Loving the use of the original titles. I cannot believe no one has mentioned, 37ø2 le matin. One of the all time great performances, funny, sad and plenty of flesh (which it has become apparent it important to some!).

Not a big one for "World Cinema" but I did really enjoy The Ring and The Eye, both of which were unfortunately remade inferiorly by the Hollywood machine.

No one makes a thriller/horror movie like the Japanese
