Bad news for people like me, who like a good solid, mechanical keyboard that is high quality but, with zero frippery.

From another forum:

“Diatec, the Japanese company behind the Filco brand, has gone bust.

Might switch back to my Majestouch II for a bit, in memoriam.”

Google translation of the link:

We regret to inform you that, as of April 22, 2026, our company has ceased operations (closed down).

That's a terrible shame another quality brand gone.
Gamer's it seems are switching to cheap nameless keyboards from China.

There are some Old school KB manufacturers still operating today, like Keytronics, and another with Duck in the title.
Contemporaries Corsair, Razer, Logitech and Steelseries make decent mechanical keyboards but plenty of frippery!

Wouldn't worry about it too much unless you don't have a mechanical keyboard, as good quality ones last for decades (Mines over 30yrs old and still going strong).

As to frippery, its mostly RGB (Which you do not need to turn on) or extra controls for media (Which you don't have to use), which increases cost minimally.

You're right Bill, you can switch off the LED and those brands that come with the frippery, make excellent mechanical keyboards. Razer on their top tier models offer dedicated lasers for each keycap, which have excellent response.

Even better are the models from Steelseries, their keycaps are magnetic driven, these provide better force and actuation can be adjusted from software.

I'm someone who likes the bling, don't mind it. It also serves a practical purpose, you can use your keyboard at night without disturbing any one, ah but mechanical keyboards click like hell! 😉

I object strongly to paying for features I don't want and, will never use. I've had my Filco for nearly 8 years and, see no reason why I won't be using it for many more years. Not sure I'll be around long enough, to use it for over 30 years though...

With Razer you are paying a high price for products, from a manufacturer that does not have a reputation for quality and durability. As for noise, my Filco has Cherry MX browns, they're a little quieter than some. Using your pc and therefore looking at the monitor, in the dark, whilst not necessarily harmful, is likely to cause eye strain which may lead to headaches. I never do it, I'm already prone to headaches as it is.

Yeah Razer are not great with their quality control and pricy too, that's true. Though my huntsman keyboard is almost five years without issues. I have customised all the keycaps with better quality ones, maybe that helped to ensure better reliability?

I have seen your entire PC build. Beautiful attetion to detail, full of taste person you are in everything you do I think. Amazing Adam Audio and Focal actives. I like Focal professional ones a lot than their hifi ones.

Thank you I appreciate your kind words.
I started PC building back in the ninetees.
There was a community of us, who hated vanilla boxes and like to fiddle around.
We would cut holes in the side panels, stick a glass to cover the area, throw in a big chunky coloured fluorescent light.
Respray the case with the colour of your choice.
It was something that developed and manufacturers soon caught on, and here we are today 🙂

Two things I like about professional speakers, you don't need to worry about amplification and balanced XLR.
I have Swiss Gotham and Mogami for the cabling. Excellent cables.

I've recently ordered the Denafrips Ares 15th DAC, This will replace my Eversolo, hopefully I receive it next week.

Wow in the 90s you were manipulating with PCs. I was in college in the 90s and as a country we were only slowly knowing what computer is on a whole.

I see you have A7V. I actually want to replace my CMS 40 with A7V only. A7V has got great reviews and what do u think of them.

Adam A7V have amazing clarity, richness of sound.
Near field setup, it feels intimate like headphones with great expansion.
A lot of technology inside a small box.
I love it, really juicy! 😀

It's a clever design each speaker employs AB and D classification amp.
High frequency AB and low frequency D, best of both worlds.

The only gripe is the manual switch at the rear. I have a solution I leave it on but have both speakers routed to a mains switchable adapter plug - see below.
Just one button to switch both speakers on.

Thank you for the photos. My CMS has switches in front. But why do u want to ON/OFF ur A7s. Whenever I ON my pc untill end of day my active monitors are also ON.

Yes, I could leave them on permanently.
I'm just mindful of power grid surges and had experience a bad surge many years ago, my Topping E30 was cooked, so I try to take precaution. All plugs feed in voltage protection mains adapter. 🙂

Your focal sub 1 and A7 merging well ? - because of 2 diferent brands thats why am asking. Why u didnt go for matching Focal monitors?
I had the Adam's originally and it was my intention to have also same brand subwoofer, but gone with Focal's for two reasons

  • Price, special offer on Anderson website and,
  • Connectivity, so many options on the Focal's, pass through connection and RCA option to connect to AVR (not using).
I think combination of Adams and Focal's work well together. It's possible Focal monitors would be better matched and seamless but the Germans and the French seem to be getting along! 😂

Positioning of these subwoofers was the biggest challenge for me, because of the dual drivers, one pulling in the opposite direction and because I had it positioned close to the wall, I was getting boomy bass.
To tame it, I had to steal my wife's spare palates mat and line it up against the wall. This worked no boomy bass.
