I said my Hi-Fi spending is done for 2026, I take it all back!
Alright @Gray you were correct, I owe you a beer!

The custom cables I have for my Hifiman He1000V2 Stealth's are pretty decent, though Furukawa generic headphone cables I got from AliExpress were much cleaner in the vocals but these were rubbery and rigid and looked worse than the original stock cables but sounded great.
Nothing wrong with the Mogami Etsy cables but the Furukawa were a little better.

Meze for their top end headphones do proper Japanese Furukawa cables and the quality is top notch. I was also tempted by the Gladiator Caesar series "Argento" Japanese Pure Silver Litz monocrystal cables 20awg, these were the same price €300.00 but I thought I do a bit of research, and I learnt there was some quality issues, hence my preference for the Meze's.

Also for the same price, Meze cable was 2.5m (I hope it doesn't get caught in the wheel of my retired office chair!), while the Caesar was a miserly 1.4m.

It was cheaper ordering from Germany than the UK but I can expect a longer delivery wait for those.

Ok this is definitely my last Hifi spend for 2026!! 🤣

I was thinking that maybe its time to look into new headphones which I use for all my serious listening.
I am on my 2nd or 3rd pair of Sennheiser HD595's which have been my faves for years but there's nothing actually wrong with them. I wonder if the HD550's would be worthy replacements. Hmm, just thinking about it for now...

Sennheiser's are always a safe bet.
If your leaning is towards dynamic headphones, both Focal and Meze make amazing headphones. I've seen on eBay Focal Clear and Meze 109 Pro headphones second hand for about the price of HD550s. You can always replace the pads with new ones.

If planars crossed your mind, Meze, FiiO and Hifimans make excellent planars to suit your budget.

Thanks for the advice, since I last looked there is a whole new world of headphones and brands of headphones out there.

My Meze Fukukawa single crystal headphones arrived today from Germany.

There was a bit of a sting, the wires were held at customs in the Deutsch.
Who's pinched my mustachio?

I had to pay freeee 'gin £64 in duties.... Ooouch my frankfurter!
EU custom duties on non-essentials are pretty steep.

Still, these cables were cheaper new, even with the taxes, than buying second hand on eBay.

Anyway gripe over. The quality on these cables are high notch.
I'm hoping to replace my Hifiman He1000v2 Etsy bespoke Mogami cables with the Meze ones.

I will do a comparison with the two cables, I will apply blindfolds, stand on one leg and eat beans while testing.
Oh here's some pics 😊
