I don't particularly want to see it - I believe that Ashley is correct in saying that they're of limited value in comparison to other things. But I will have a look, assuming I can find them, as I'm curious about the bass performance.

BTW - I was playing some very strange Spotify tracks designed to test the bass and I was a little worried that some of the wine bottles might come out of their racks!!!

PS - Any chance of a URL? - the search facility on the AVI forum isn't a lot better than the one here!

...although in my searching I did unearth a somewhat bizarre thread where a guy named John Duncan was asking for graphs and being told by all and sundry that he shouldn't be asking for them - that he should just let his ears do the judging. Then some guy said he'd bring a pair of DM5s over to demonstrate. It looked like that was going to be gratefully accepted and then John went for an operation and was never seen or heard from again!

Let that be a warning to anyone looking for graphs, meaningless though they may be....

The next test is going to be on the 23 sep

We have dm10s
hegel/atc and devialet and one more set up from Lindsayt so should get pretty crazy.

I think we need to agree on songs before hand

I came to realize after the first test how badly some of my music is recorded.

I'm upto bringing a Nord, if room. Drop me a mail. Being a fan of Hegal and ATC, whilst I think the AVI's offer stunning VFM performance.

You always more than welcome but let me first make sure i have enough room lol. Of course it would be great.

Test what are you up too? a Bakeoff?

Hi Colin howzit

Yes dont know if youve read this forum post from begining (i would recomend though as its quite a good one)

Myself and Ipv tested my hegel/atc v his active dm10s and the dm10s won imo and Darius.

But the results started a small soap opera. Real things like speaker stands and position to crazy mental troll things like we both planned the outcome just to get at someone(like we have too much time on our hands) so we doing another one but this time there are more people with devialets and vintage stuff so its going to be fun.

One thing in these tests you have to be open and honest though and thats what i was last time so its going to be fun to hear all the different set ups in one place.

I'm not fussy, as long as they are good some ATC's would be fine. I could bring some but im conscious that there may be limeted room. We have replaced some D's as well as a Hegel 360, actually he sold the Hegal as he wanted more warmth bought a Valve pre and a 2nd hand Plinius power amp, is now trying a Nord.

kelela - the high   DR probably 4 to 7

I'll bring something with a dark green DR rating.

We all need same songs
What songs do you have in mind if you had to pick just 2

That way we all have the same 6 -10 songs that we can listen to before hand.

You like your bass, don't you :) Nice tracks, sure, but for comparison? For vocals I'd suggest something like Joan Baez: Diamonds and Rust. Don't like it in particular, speacially not her vibrato, but what a recording! And for classical, since you enjoy bass, try Arvo Pärt's 4th symhony, part II (Affannoso) final 4 minutes (DG Concerts/LA Phil/Salonen/Live) - both attacking and very delicate. And of course The Firebird/Danse Infernale always works. Boulez/Chicago/1992 is a pretty good one.

Hi

Ill get in touch soon. If you want you can bring a nord for comparison against the amps and use my speakers if you want or bring some of yours as long as standmounts.

For anyone else wanting to come sorry
We have to draw the line on 5 max now though as my place running out of room.

Your bakeoff is a great idea....just be careful that it doesn't end up a bit chaotic, with so many different components that it's hard to learn anything.

It will need to be very structured and well organized. Also, imo a lot of amps need to properly warm up before they sound right.

I know the subject of sample tracks could spark another lengthy discussion but would suggest Alison Krauss for vocals; as well as a great voice, her recordings are generally excellent.

Great to see that Colin may be going to the 'bake off' (not sure about this as I never watch baking programmes!). Will be interesting to get comparisons of the Nord with other quality amps.

I was thinking of bringing something like:

Steve Earle; Exit O (DR17)

or Steve Winwood; Back In The High Life (DR16) or Roll With It (DR16)

When playing music on other peoples system's I think it's polite to take something well recorded that will show their systems in a good light.

CnoEvil, I really wouldn't mind if we don't get around to playing any of my equipment. There's always another day. My valve amps take 5 minutes to sound OK and 20 minutes to come on song. My solid state amps are fine after 1 minute.

and here's the problem.. those are the tracks I played randomly last time to Andrew and he loved it[ and asked if I can simply play same tracks I played last time, hence my selcetion] and he made positive comments.. it's often mentioned [ here as well] the best track are the ones you like.. and we're not going to test anything, we are going to compare set ups and I think almost any music can show differences between them.. we can go thru usual audiophile dire straits etc and I don't mid if any of participants bring and play dire straits.. let's just play what we like..
