I've been offered a CA-2300 for a modest sum if I trade my CA-2100 in at the same time. The CA-2100 has served me well but the prospect of its big brother is tempting.

Anyone think its worth the trade or would they be so similar as to negate the point? I wont have the chance to audition at home but I suppose I could always take it back and ask for my 2100 back :)

Never heard one I am afraid, doubt many forum members have, it's your money but to me it wouldn't appear to be a huge step up from what you have. More modern no doubt but that may be enough for you. You don't say how much you are being asked to pay on top of your trade in I notice.

What speakers do you use? Big room? Do you listen loud? What music (modern pop or acoustic stuff)?

Trippling the power looks tempting, but would you actually need it?

£1000 on top of my CA-2100. The CA2300 is a 2 year old p/x the dealer took in.

Speakers are Troel Gravesen designed ScanSpeak monitors http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/Illuminator-Monitor.htm

Music is wide and varied but tends to be electronic in nature (electronica, techno, minimal, house)

I do play it loud when I can but the CA-2100 is loud enough to go to uncomfortable levels without even breaking a sweat. Its more would the sound quality benefit from the extra power and control

then these speakers have a low sensitivity and a rather benign impedance curve.

I think you would benefit most when playing acoustic music (which usually requires more headroom than electronic stuff). The extra power then just gives you a more realistic picture.

Anyway... I'd be very tempted to go ahead a do the trade in!

I was un similar positiin as you last year and swapped my 160 for a 360.
I have never regretted it one bit.

But everyone has different priorities. If its the absolute last bit of perfomance your after then go for it. But if value for money then keep the old. All imo only

Have never heard those amps in question

That sounds a little expensive to me considering the 2300 is not even new. It is my understanding that the retail prices of these two used to be approximately 2000 dollars apart.

If you want that 2300 I'd see if you can haggle them down a bit. You might even find you are a bit better off by selling the 2100 privately and doing a cash-only deal.

I wonder what they consider the trade-in value of that 2100 to be, probably nothing like you could get selling private (a bit like selling cars).
