I have a set of wharfedale diamond 8 speakers as my surrond sound set up but my wife wants more room and wants rid of them esp my 8.3 floorstanding fronts.we have come to compramise and i am keeping my 8.1 rears which i will wire into my speaker b terminals so i can at least have some half decent stereo sound for music. ive been considering buying some tannoy sfx 5.1 or some jamo a102s. Has anybody heard them both and if so which did u consider better. Or has anybody got any alternative ideas for around the same budget. they will run of a technics SA-DX950 amp, ty.

I was in the same postition as you a few weeks back and was wondering about the same speakers.I did read somewhere those two sets compared and the guy that auditioned them thought the jamos were better.I haven`t heard the tannoys myself but did buy the jamo A102HCS5 speakers after much research and am very happy with them after tweaking of the sub woofer. They sound great for music too which surprised me.My other old speakers are the tannoy mercury 5 speaker set up i bought around 1998-99, minus the sub.So this is what im comparing them to.
I`m not sure if i`m allowed to name the place i bought them as i`m new to these forums but if buying then dont pay over £200 inc vat for them.

I recently got the Tannoy SFX 5.1 and I am very happy with them. I also considered the Jamo's but I think I prefer the styling of the Tannoys and they were cheaper (always a bonus).

To be honest, you probably can't go wrong with either set for the money. Just get them and enjoy them.

Or for just a wee bit more if you don't mind silver there are the Kefs from superfi.

You must listen to me as I'm also a Red born in 1973!!

Seriously, the speakers are very close but the Jamo sub is a fair bit better than the Tannoy one. My brother-in-law has the Tannoy system and I used to have the Jamos. The SUB200 is ridiculous value considering it is about £120 on it's own.

I have just purchased the Mordaunt Short Carnival 5.1 system from E-bay for £215.00 (inclusive of free delivery, 40 metres of speaker cables and sub-woofer cable).

I recently posted a query to see if anyone had this system but received no reply. I figured I would get it and compare it to my Jamo A102 HCS5 system.

I will hook it up and post feedback (from an amateur's point of view).

Thank you all for your replies, by the sounds of it they are both good for the money and maybe the jamos just ahead at the mo. ill check out the kefs on superfi ty. gerrardasnails love the name, class. 1973 was a great vintage and matureing nicely, lets give it to the toffies tonite
