It will be very difficult to manipulate the various TV settings to get a good picture as it very much depends on the lighting condition of your room. What I did was resort to the use of a calibration DVD to do the job. Try "Spears & Munsil High Definition Benchmark (Blue ray edition)" which I think you can find this in Amazon.

hi.. thank you soo much.. but my concern is should i switch ON mpeg noise reduction or black corrector or advance contrast enhancer or live colour or clear white or noice reduction.. what are these settings for.. most of the reviews suggest to switch it off.. i didnt like advance contrast enhancer and black corrector.. i couldnt see much difference when mpeg noise reduction or noise reduction or clear white is switched on.. i noticed better colours when switching on live colour..what do u suggest.. i will check the bluray u said on amazon.

Your settings sound pretty good to me. Leave hue and white balance alone (You need a sensor to calibrate them). Gamma should be neutral or +1 (depends on your specific tv and the inputs, again, a sensor is needed to set accurately)

Sharpness should be zero. But (before I used my balanced mains to clean out the RFI) I had mine set at +3 (Anymore and it was over sharpening)

Thank u..

Backlight - i think it should not more than 4. mine is 2 and i am quite happy with it. what do u say should i increase it to 4 or 5

Picture - not more than 90. mine is 80. 90 is too much i think. i am thinking of 85.

Brightness - not more than 55. 60 the blacks turns into little grey. so i think 50 is perfect.

Colour - not more than 55. mine is 50. but i sometime feel that red is little light so m thinking 55. what do u suggest.

Hue - default 0

Colour temp - warm 1. everyone says warm2 but the white in that is little yellowish. m happy with warm 1. do u still suggest warm2.

Sharpness - 5 is fine i think. i will try 0. but sharpness not more than 5.

Noice reduction - off. should i switch it on

Mpeg noice reduction - off. should i switch it on.

Cinema drive - auto. i think auto is fine.

Advance contrast enhancer - off. should i switch it on

Black corrector - off. should i switch it on

Gamma - default 0

Clear white - off. should i switch it on.

Live colour - off. should i switch it on

White balance - default

Ambient sensor - off. should i switch it on.

Can you also tell me your tv settings.. ?

Thank you.

Sony Bravia EX400 32inch, Sony DVD Home Theatre System DAV-DZ290k, Sony PS3 120GB, TATA Sky HD, Sony Vaio CW Series - I use all with hdmi cables.

(By picture you mean contrast?) Ideally you need a THX setup disc or similar. Backlight and Brightness go hand in hand to setup black levels. Too high and black becomes grey, too low and you lose black detail. Contrast - too high and you lose white detail, too low and your tv wont be as bright as it could be. Colour is set by eye

Hue - default 0

Colour temp - warm 1. everyone says warm2 but the white in that is little yellowish. m happy with warm 1. do u still suggest warm2.

If warm 2 looks yellow then stick with warm 1

Sharpness - 5 is fine i think. i will try 0. but sharpness not more than 5.

My tv got better with cleaner mains, meaning I had to lower the sharpness

Noice reduction - off.

Mpeg noice reduction - off.

Cinema drive - auto. i think auto is fine.

Not sure about this one as my tv doesnt have it, though I suspect auto would be fine

Advance contrast enhancer - off.

Black corrector - off.

Gamma - default 0

Clear white - off. .

Live colour - off.

White balance - default

Ambient sensor - off.

Can you also tell me your tv settings.. ?

Ill write em down tomorrow if I remember

Ive wrote in BOLD the correct settings and any remarks I have

My settings shouldnt be used as each tv is different, the mains supply makes a difference as does the source used etc

In particular, a cleaner mains means settings are lower (I have clean mains, so id expect your settings to be higher in some cases)

Picture mode CINEMA (picture modes can physically change the greyscale sometimes, 'cinema' is regarded as the best 'out of ther box' setting)

Backlight 2

Contrast 96

Brightness 49

Colour 47

Colour Temp Warm 2

Sharpness Min

Gamma Standard

Everything swtiched OFF (Live colour etc)

Ive set white balance using a meter. Im not posting them as they would be useless to your setup. Due to me using a meter, YOUR colour temp and gamma may need to be different

Ive heard of some sonys having yellow whites if the contrast is too high (So you might be better lowering the contrast and changing to WARM 2)

You really should use a SET UP DISC to set brightness etc

hi

what is clean mains?

Backlight 2 - mine is 3

Contrast 96 - mine is 85

Brightness 49 - mine is 50

Colour 47- mine is 50

Colour Temp Warm 2 - mine is warm 1

Sharpness Min - mine is 5

should i lower the contrast to 80? should i lower the backlight to 2? m happy with brightness, colour and colour temp.

when i switch to warm 2 then the white becomes yellow white so i think warm 1 is better for me.

what is a meter? what is a set up disc? where can i get the meter or set up disc?

Thank you soo much.

what is clean mains?

Your mains supply has RFI (Radio emmisions), which can in turn affect tvs, hifi etc to a degree. I use a unit to combat RFI (dont worry about it, most people dont bother with it). So 'clean mains' means very little RFI entering the units power supply.

should i lower the contrast to 80? should i lower the backlight to 2? m happy with brightness, colour and colour temp.

All you can do is experiment. if your happy with colour temp then you may as well leave contrast as it is. What I was suggesting was turn colour temp to warm 2 and turn contrast down and see how that is.

when i switch to warm 2 then the white becomes yellow white so i think warm 1 is better for me. As above

what is a meter? The meters cost about 100 quid and you need a laptop and software. Id suggest not thinking about it. what is a set up disc? THX discs (As an example) have a setup section (THX discs like terminator 2, Star Wars etc etc. Most people have at least one THX disc in their collection). These THX setups (And there are others you can buy) allow a pretty good calibration of contrast and brightness.

Thank you soo much.

Hi

About the contrast and colour temp - i will do the experiment and let you know.

RFI & Meter - not thinking about it

Backlight - is 2 now.

THX Discs - i will search on amazon and buy it. can you recommend any thx disc or any other which i can easily find.

Btw i am a huge Sony fan. i think they make the best tvs with panasonic coming second. i dont like samsung and lg much though they make good tvs also. they are other brands also but for me TV is sony. which brand is your favourite.. ?

Thank you soo much.

Entirely upto you

Terminator 2 will have a setup section (cheaper and has a movie to boot)

Ive never used the DVE disc so cant really comment on it. But it should be more detailed than the THX one
