The only reason we use stands is to get the acoustic centre, usually the gap between tweeter and bass driver, level with our ears in the listening position, or somewhere near. It's not critical, but the other reason is and that's to reduce mid and hi frequency reflections from the floor.

A pile of books and an old lavatory pan will do it.

we can go forever like that.. I'm sure, but no matter how weird the stands and books under etc looks to you my point is: did have atc's before, properly set up etc and speakers were still lacking on clarity, stereo image and smoothness... got it now?

IMO Andrew's and IPV's appraisal is totally unhelpful after seeing the pictures of where and how the ATCs were sat.

In another thread IPV said the ATCs were ".congested, thick & distorted. not analitical and not smooth" Not surprising they sounded 'wrong' given they were sat on a wheelless tea trolley.

Also notice still no answer as to whether the sub was also used with the H360/curved SCM11's. And lippy then subsquently claims that all the answers are in the thread. So much for parity and claiming honesty *biggrin* Unless i am missing something then it must be down to magic *biggrin*

You used books to prop the ATCs up? Holy ****! You're like a schoolboy who tries to gain an advantage - regardless of cost to a friend - by using the best stands (no books included) and no doubt positioned in the best place to impress.

As I mentioned in an earlier post: Would you be happy to hear your bundles on sub-standard stands at a dealers? I would say most definitely NO.

I thought you were knowledgable... but when it comes to AVIs, you are not doing yourself any favours - or Colonel Sanders, who has mysteriously crawled from the woodwork.

The AVI forum is corrupt -- they have a way of brainwashing anyone who goes against the grain. That's probably why they'll always stay as a small set-up.

If you think I'm well over the top, ask the Colonel about the time he and Max slagged off Andrew because he likes Naim equipment. I seem to remember John Duncan came in a defended Andrew with this review.

WHFI also reviewed a model in 2010.

FWIW here's a link to a post by ianB on the AVI Forum where he compares his £17,000 ATC SCM100A SL Anniversary models with ADM40s that he replaced them with. It's possible to email him via the forum for verification.

The DM10s are a bit better than 40s, but have slightly less bass.

Anyway you wouldn't happen to know how Andy has in an instant overcome his six month objection to subwoofers with issues of phase, soundstage, being artificial and mucks up stereo *biggrin* Surely you two would have factored this in as part of your presentation *ROFL* Oh and please don't tell me it was by magic as i'd struggle to take it anymore *ROFL*

This is the reason I would prefer to have my toenails pulled out than buy an AVI.

I really like the AVI Lab series of amps. That was before I knew what the Colonel was like.

About the books: it was so the speaker can directly face us at head height as they are so low. They were not facing the ceiling at all but towards me. DARIUS even let me sit perfect centre and even pulked couch away from wall. He did not try rig a result.
Most testing say 90% was done without sub
We never used the sub as i could not feel its effects. Only at end did we use sub.

I personally dont think at all that the stands or any books changed the result at all.

IPV has already had 11,s, 19,s and ACTIVE 40s perfectly set up and same result.

Ive asked steve 1979 to dig up an old review of scm50 active v dm10 - same findings btw with or without sub.

Appreciate that the company is small and needs to keep its followers on-board, but no need to start having a go at people on here just because their precious actives aren't their priority.

I was even a target for Igglebert and The Record Spot for liking Monitor Audio speakers. Why should that matter? We all crave a certain sound, surely.

...but I still have no assurance whether for example a DM10 will work well with a turntable or streaming...

I play records, stream music from Spotify and listen to CD rips with DM10s.

No problems there. It all works fine.
