Budget amp bloodbath

"Technical improvements" needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. Great thats its cheaper as "improvements" normally means more expensive.

I would think of it more like this Improved at the price point/ the same for less

So it may be but a second-hand 6000a may still be a better buy for some.

People who want to buy new will buy new. Your statement doesn't make sense at all. HDMI is a big draw, as the DAC will be a big draw in the new Brio.

Any secondhand purchase will 'be a better buy for some', as one's budget permits. But you seem to discount the improvements on the new models, audio and otherwise.

I would question why hdmi is a big draw in a budget amp.
You might as well get an AV Receiver
And no, minor improvement does mean this amp is a better buy than a second-hand original if you really are on a budget.
Lesson amp gives you more to spend on speakers and that's where it really counts.

1. Dear AI Ears, my first draw to the 6000A Mk2 is the improved sound quality which Tarun in his review confirms. So you obviously do not believe the Mk2 sounds or could sound better?? If you don't let's stop this discussion and no need to read this comment further as you've made up your mind already.

2. You would question why HDMI is a draw in a budget amp?? Well HDMI is prevalent in much more expensive stereo amps too FYI. Why people like me want HDMI in stereo amps is because we don't want the additional faff, expense and space taken by a full AV setup, but would like the convenience of enjoying the sound of a TV through our hifi when watching a show or movie - or perhaps in your purist stereo world you'd rather cut your nose to spite your face?

3. 'Lesson amp gives you more to spend on speakers and that's where it really counts'. That may not be true all of the time for all people. And I repeat again, if no-one has bought these amps before, you'd rather point them to the secondhand older models?? So in your world no-one would buy new hifi?

I believe you have completely missed my point on your efforts to promote this new amp.
By for now

Easy boys 🙂. I am sure this new Audiolab is improved. Personally I use an outboard DAC so no big issue there but there are apparently power supply improvements too.

There seems to be a £100 difference between the original 6000a and the MK2 new. I personally would get the new one for such a small difference unless you buy s/h.

I absolutely love the 6000A so there is little need for me to change this for the successor. Only listening to them side by side would perhaps change that but why bother when I am happy.

Never ceases to amaze me how easily some people spark into an arguement.
No need to get defensive about things.

As for that Tarun geezer, I don't dislike the bloke, though he is a bit smug.
He's listened to quite a bit of stuff - but just because he thinks the new amp sounds better.....doesn't mean everyone would think so of course.

Then if you have decided that I am a co%k please keep it to yourself.
Thanks in anticipation......
There's always the Ignore option.
Did I respond to you if I did thats a mistake!

And you've learnt something about me I own my mistakes and ill apologise for them no matter how embarcing that might be unlike many here.

No problem, all I saw was "being a co%k about things like AL".
Apologies if I misinterpreted that.
