Yeah a vaccine is the key.
An effective treatment combined with Western countries adopting the Asian practice of wearing masks in public and very strict contact tracing of anyone who gets infected will allow some of the restrictions to be lifted. Maybe even most of the restrictions, at least for healthy people. But we're a long way from any of that yet.
The Vietnam model. Quite incredible how few cases they have had in a country of 83 million that borders China. It's about 240 cases with no deaths at all. Huge fines if you go out in public without a mask, straight to jail if you go out with the virus, quarantine for all new visitors, 14-day quarantine if you have been with anyone who has the virus and a public that buys into the concept. Most importantly all cases are traced back. Everyone who has been in contact with an infected person is quarantined and tested twice. If they have the virus, they go back another level, and keep going back to trace the source. The worst outbreak they had was from a British tourist who 'escaped' from quarantine.
