After posting on a recent thread, it got me thinking, 'what disc would I really like to own'?

Being fron the Northern soul background, mine is 'House for Sale, Millie Jackson'.

Whats yours?

My Holy Grail is a picture disc version of `Bat Out Of Hell` by Meat Loaf. Not the regular red on both sides edition but one which has the red colouring on one side and on the other it has the album artwork in natural colours. ie Blue sky instead of red.

It does exist because I actually held it for a few seconds in a record shop back in the late 70`s. It cost about £14 at the time and I couldn`t afford it so I had to reluctantly hand it back. Never seen sight nor sound of it or another similar copy since.

Tut tut, that's modern soul - you'll have the Northern Soul police onto you !

Did you bid for Frank Wilson's Do I Love You (Indeed I Do) which was up for sale recently ?

Don't know if this is exactly the one you want Survivor, but it may be worth an email.

Thanks very much for link. The second one definately isn`t the one I`m after though I shall email about the first just in case. Haven`t contacted anybody for awhile regarding this item as it was one disappointment after another. Mind you years ago I had to do so by phone or post and now an email is of course fast and cheap so maybe I should start searching in earnest again.

I once contacted someone at the official Meat Loaf fan club about this record and he`d never heard of it. He made some calls and found someone who thought if might be a Canadian promo. He doubted my story initially because he thought he knew every version of every edition released by Meat Loaf but I assured him I wasn`t imaging it, the record does exist.

Thanks once again for the link. Very good of you.

Hi Spacehopper, no didn't bid on it, being perfectly honest I did not know one was for sale.

Even if I had, I actually work for a living and not a MP so not sure my funds would stretch to it. What did it go for?

When it comes to Soul, love the old northern, modern stuff and even some of the cheesy soul hits that most hardcore Northern Soul folks would just laugh at.

I know what you mean - maybe Sir Fred used some of his ill gotten gains.

I can't find anything about it now, strange, although I did see $100K mentioned !!!!

I agree with you, I got totally bored with the obssesive side of Northern - seems to me the music has got lost along the way (mention The Snake these days and most so-called Northern fans just sneer). House For Sale is indeed a classic, I have it on a Kent comp of the Spring label which is superb (well you can't go wrong with Kent can you).

Just got a copy of The Stylistics self-titled first album which is an amazing album, worth it for People Make The World Go Round alone.

Maybe we should start a Soul album thread !

Brand new Dire Straits "Love over Gold" but I am not paying £77 for it.
Also a lot of albums that I have looked at recently but they were all between £30 and £50. They would have been £3.99 or cheaper if I'd bought them in the early seventies.

That`s a cracking sleeve! Only got two of his albums and have been thinking about this one. The two I have are on cd and seeing as I`m a bit of a vinyl man I shall look out for this one with a gatefold sleeve. Cheers!

It is a classic cover, same artist that Santana chose for Abraxas I think. I came across this which is very interesting hopefully the album artwork is reproduced exactly as the original then this will be a definate purchase
