The Naim has a problem...

It seems to be skipping on random discs. Contacted the dealer I purchased it from and they'll give it a 'once over', either today or Saturday. Should it need serious work they'll send it back to Naim.

I asked, also, if they had the Elicit-R on dem. They said they have one ticking over in a back room, so I might cast a curious ear over it.

Would be nice to go a few months without problems. First the Leema headphone socket and now CDP.

C'est la vie.

And when you take your CD5i to the dealer, don't forget the transit screw :)

(And don't tip the unit up to fit it. Remember to slide it to the edge of a table and fit it whilst the player is horizontal.)

I sent my CD5i in to Naim shortly before selling the whole system.

It's LCD display border had started 'bleeding' and - although it affected nothing - I wanted the player in tip-top condition to maximise the price.

It came back to the dealer two weeks later with a new display and also completely cleaned and serviced (according to the paperwork).

It sounded better than ever when I tested it (just before photographing it and packing it for listing on ebay).

Ta - that's reassuring.

The irony was I never intended to replace the Arcam at the time. They let me have the Rega dac on home trial to see how that would improve things. Took it back a couple of days later and told him it was a little better but wasn't wholely convinced. It was only he said they had this ex-dem CD5i-2 @ £630. He said he would give me £200 for the Arcam, as it was in mint condition. Although I didn't tell him the drawer occasionally opened by itself.

Who's a naughty boy then!?

Sorry to hear that, your not having much luck right now. Luckily for me I have never had any problems with audio equipment except for my first separate ken wood amplifier that stopped working through one channel. I even have a pioneer CD player that I bought in 93 and used as my source until 2010 that still works perfectly fine.

Hope I haven't jinxed myself. I wish you good luck and hope it all gets sorted and is good as new.

I double dare you to demo the Elicit R

PP, I reckon you will like!

Re: your CD5 - I am sure Naim will look after you

Certainly going to give it a listen, sure it will sound good. No doubt about that. It'll take some amp to dislodge the Leema, though.

TBF, I'm not taking the Leema over there (can't be doing with all that nonsense again) so won't have anything to compare it with. But do know the difference between a good'un and duffo, even in isolation. :)

Congrats PP - I'm sure it'll give you hours of enjoyment.

They last a bit longer than that usually.

That reminds me PP, make sure you register your Naim online or using the postcard. Then your CD5i will be guaranteed for 5 years with Naim. (Even after the dealer's guarantee has expired). No registration, no 5 year guarantee.

Will do. Ta.

Ya know PP, bearing in mind the fun you had with the Arcam opening its drawer for no reason, I reckon you got a friendly ghost ( yes, you have had a thread about that one too I know ).

I have a Nait 5i here at the works that would change input select to channel 4 for no reason. Did it for about a month. Contacted Naim and they told me how to re-boot it, no difference.

I kid you not!!. Friend of mine came to see me who's a priest. Told him what was happening and he performed an excorcism. No problems since. I am not joking. Think it was my dead partner having some fun coz he was bored. Bit unnerving when ur sat in front of it touching nothing and it changes from CD to input 4.

That happened to my Nait 5i for the week our TV was in for repair and we had a Samsung 'loan' TV from the repair people. Unbeknown to me (until I went into it's settings) the Samsung had some 'global control' setting left on that tried to take over anything in the room using Philips RC5 remote code. It even did this whilst in standby.

I turned off the setting (whatever it was called) and all was well.
