So are you saying that if i replace all my power cables on my Linn/Naim six pack system with the Naim powerline cable (price £495) i won't hear a difference ?

If I'd paid £495 for a cable I'd be damned sure I heard a difference!

Yes but, i'm talking about 9 peices of hi- fi kit, so that would be 9 x £495 for the powerline. That's nearly four and a half grand for IEC power cables. Do you still think there would be a lot of difference ?

It simply isn't possible for a power cable (or anything else on the mains) to affect the performance of anything.

Never heard of dirty mains Trev?

Ever been had?

Could you be more specific ?

Thought not.

Oh and no, I have never purchased a fancy manis cable, always used the ones that came with the gear..............

Sorry, I don't spend my entire life on here. Dirty mains is nonsense.

Of course it is Trev, just llike the Earth is flat

Of course interference from other appliances can cause interference, but describing it as dirty is a recent invention, no doubt concocted by people that want to sell unnecessay mains filters to the clueless.

What do people think of the what hifi reviews on mains cables ?

Such as........

Stereo hi-fi equipment sounds cleaner, crisper and more articulate. The dynamics are more forceful but there's not a hint of exaggeration or excess.

We've certainly heard more dramatic-sounding mains cables before, but little at this price that sounds as natural as this Wireworld.

Sharper, bolder TV images
Connect this cable to a TV, and the image is sharper, bolder and more detailed.

The improvement over the standard cables provided with TVs is clear.

Surley these rewiews should be removed if they are no different to standard cables ?

It is misleading readers

The so called experts are technically clueless.

Good power is the foundation of a great system. If you haven't installed dedicated AC lines then that's the first step. Dedicated lines means one Circuit breaker>Wire>Wall Outlet, nothing else on the circuit.. Not sure if that's the right terminology for you fellows.. In my main system I have 2 dedicated lines: 20amp breaker 10gauge romex to Oyaide R1 outlets..

To the OP, go to somewhere like Future shop.co.uk who have a 60-day return policy. Make up your own mind. Then you can avoid the holier than thou conceit of either side and decide for yourself. Me? I have no dog in this hunt.

The magazine associated with this website makes it clear that reviews of this nature are the 'opinion' of the reviewer. Whether you would reach a similar conclusion if presented with the same cables, or whether there is any measurable difference between the cables under test is of course another matter.

Same old God complex I see

To be fair to TrevC, the journalists on the magazine associated with this forum have admitted that they are technically clueless, and make no use of test equipment or technical parameters (see the blog 'The great cable debate - crossed wires') . It is open to question whether they hold themselves out as 'so called experts' though.

Nonsense on stilts. As long as 240 volts is delivered your stuff won't care how or perform any differently. You've wasted your money.

It used to say at the top of the page that they were experts! Edit, it still does!

TrevC you are the one who is talking nonsense not EricM . High-End Hi-Fi system do need dedicated lines and good power cords to perform best .

OK, then kindly explain how they can improve performance. As an electronics engineer I would be most interested in your nonsense.

How do you get two monoblock amps to produce 2x1kW of power in transient peaks from a wall socket that has 2A circuit breaker between the amp and the power line?

We use a standard ring main in the UK, capable of over 3kW (13 amp) via one plug, so your question is nonsensical.

Hi ISAC69

I posted some of the following yesterday -

I've currently got a system set up which consists of an Audiolab 8200AP, Plinius Odean, Monitor Audio PL200, PLC150, PL100 and JL Audio Fathom f212 and two E-112's. Cables being used are basic interconnects with standard 79 and 500 strand OFC speaker cables.

Just to add the 8200AP, Odean, Fathom f212 and two E-112's are all being used with standard mains cables.

All the best

Rick @ Musicraft
