please check your inbox Andrew..

infiniteloop could also bring sonus fabers.. we need at least one set of the speakers ( and amp) from every participant as we're going to compare systems not components..

I could also bring the Focals and SF's, but frankly I'd have to bring the stands for both of these too as I believe they perform at their best on their respective stands.

I also have a 24 Watt SET Valve Amp that sounds great with both these speakers.........

It could be a very long day. *shok*

The real Ashley James?

You couldn't make it up.

Apparently this is the real Ashley James, despite rumours to the contrary...

Just the devialet and a set of speakers if you can will do as with all the different options could become messy. Thats not to say on another occasion we could go to yours to hear all your stuff someday.
We talk about stands before the time comes.

It may be best to pm one of us i think Darius is best as he is good organizer.

This thread has lost its sell by date atm

I met Ashley last summer when visiting the UK. I'd say that image is a few years old. He's had his hair cut, too.

I don't know which Ashley James you met but he must have been an imposter. Just look on Google images for 'Ashley James' to see what the head of AVI looks like.

Not bad for a retired 70 year old.

Okay. The Focals and SF's sound very different to each other with the Devialet and both have their charms. However, the Focals sound 'huge' and very clear and neutral and I personally would love to hear them next to the AVI's in combination with the Devialet.......

Oh, ****** it, I'll probably bring both!

Darius will send you a few possible dates that we can all meet up for round 2. Look forward to it

I'll get the camera, speakers, sub, stands, I think I'll prepare a selection of - let's say - 10 various tracks send you both in advance so you can get familiar and then we play them on 3 different set ups and compare.. what you think? I'm also thinking to get a decent db meter to level match the playback ( seems like Avi remote also control hegel, haha)... any ideas anyone regarding the Round 2? we're going prepare this one more carefully so any sensible ideas welcome..

Sounds good, but can we each suggest some tracks - maybe 3 each? - I'd also like all tracks to be at least CD quality too.

I was kinda thinking the same thing.

Seems there will be more than 2 combos we cant keep start stopping so maybe 3 songs from one then 3 from another.

Maybe others can add what they would do.

One thing must be clear - we dont want comebacks this time. No loop holes.

Your avi will be up against almost £10 000 worth of equipment. More cost than my car

It's good to use high quality music to test speakers with but could I also suggest that you listen to one rough sounding song too. Preferably something that's harsh sounding and badly mastered. I'll let you choose the track but go for something with really awful sound quality such as 'Parallel Universe' by The Red Hot Chili Peppers or 'Rock Superstar' by Cypress Hill.

AVI have an unfounded reputation for only sounding good with good quality music. Some people have claimed that with low quality music their high clairty can make them unlistenable. As a DM10 owner I know that this is untrue so it would be an interesting test to see which of the three speakers is really the most unforgiving when listening to harsh sounding music.

hafl a day on the phone with RSPCA headquarters and they've promised to deliver first thing in the morning high end mock ups of DM10's with new high power traps fitted into.. you know, too much security is never enough..

Yes, at least CD quality. None of that distorted, compromised vinyl crap some audiophiles bang on about :)

I know, you don't want a flood of suggestions for tracks to try, but still, the best single testpiece for many speaker chatracteristics I've found in the past decades is very possibly unknown for most: https://open.spotify.com/track/3BVyHrsUC4CajqLLbSTz7h
