As it appears the full review is going to miss the Awards Issue (frustratingly), is there any chance you can 'suggest' how well the BDP-831 performs against whatever is going to win the WHFSV Awards Best Blu-Ray Player accolade, after the awards issue is public of course ?

I'm not sure I can wait 'til November to read the full review before buying a new BD player !

Standby for a flood of comparison requests

If giving comparisons in your blog , would it be possible to give an opinion of the OPPO against the Denon 2500 , I,ve been waiting 2 months for this already , for an upgrade purchase November is toooooooo long for me

I will be buying the awards issue of course to see what is the best in test but the Denon 2500 is on my shortlist

..........if it turns out to be a pile of tosh?

For even suggesting that that could be the case, can I suggest that you pack your bags and leave on the first filght to Uruguay.

So? The Oppo is clearly so great that it will even play 78s at the correct speed without the need to re-align the thingmy whilst bit-streaming to a higher rate with error check..........Prof, I'll see you at the airport.........

Hey, if it'll play the shedload of Japanese and Hong Kong Blu-rays with which Mrs E will no doubt be staggering through Heathrow in a couple of weeks' time, it'll be alright by me.

sweet dude! Apologies for my earlier post as I did not realise it was an infringement and a big thanks to Andrew for providing enough info for me to eagerly await launch on 7th October and fill the slot in the rack where a disc player used to be :)

And don't forget, the Oppo will be effectively group-tested against the rest of its Blu-ray rivals - including the latest Pioneer, Sony and Denon models - in our Awards issue, which will be with subscribers/pre-orderers/Manchester Show visitors from 17th October.

Are any of the rivals universal players (said he expecting the answer no).

Nope, the Oppo is alone in that respect (at that price-point, at least - as Andrew's blog details).

Still waiting on news as to availability of Cambridge Audio's universal player later this year.
