Andrew Everard:We do our best, though a lot of electronic tongue-biting goes on behind the scenes. Apologies if we occasionally lose our cool under extreme provocation

For clarity,I meant the patience bit has to be done- no problem with losing the cool-in this particular case long overdue.

Just when I thought Will had got the point and everyone was playing nicely BANG , C- - - - - what's happened in the the last 24hrs

Were right back to square one bitching

As previously noted all OPPO fans say the company have second to none customer support but not a cheap from them on where we are with this player.

As for censorship what about that picture Clair don't you realise we are all pent up ?

Bet there has been plenty 20mins spent "relieving the pressure" of this thread

Hi Team,

I just wondered whether you can help. I have got an Arcam AVR-280 and will have to use the analogues in 7.1 for HD sound/DVD's in 5.1 and will be looking to buy this Oppo blu-ray. If the DACs are not that great for music DVD's and Blu-ray how could I improve this analogue performance? Is the Dacmagic able to do this somehow?

Cheers in advance!

No, as the DM is only stereo, and you want 7.1 or 5.1 operation. I wouldn't agree with comments about the poor quality of the onboard conversion, BTW - but as I keep saying, that's only my opinion...

Hi Andrew,

Thanks. Do you think my existing Cyrus Discmaster 8.0 would be better for music dvd 5.1 audio than the Oppo or indeed maybe the Cambridge Audio 650bd?

Cheers.

Cheers.

After years of being underwhelmed by various Concert DVD/BluRays, and that includes playing most on my (very) expensive Tag DVD32, I finally heard a concert BluRay that blew me away. "Return To Forever - Returns - Live At Montreux 2008 - BLU-RAY Version" Finally a disc in my setup (added Oppo83 and cheap analogue cables) that makes you sound as if you were at the venue. A tight bass but one that made the CDs in my wall rack start moving out! Drums to die for - and it's not even my type of music.

Now I'm not going to praise the Oppo (too dangerous to do that here - LOL) and the disc is rather special, BUT, the combination of Player/Disc/Analogue connection has given the best sound in 20 years of searching for good concert sound. So, I wouldn't worry about the DACS - just enjoy.

Andrew, I have the CD of the same tour which is excellent. Some of the acoustic bass is astonishing. I wonder how they compare - I don't suppose you have the CD as well?

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the info. I'll certainly be looking at the Oppo as a DVD/Blu-Ray upgrade (from a Samsung BDP-2500) improvement along with maybe the Cambridge Audio 650bd once also reviewed.

Cheers !!

No, in fact I'd never heard of them until I saw a BluRay recommendation and thought, give couple of tracks a whirl with Lovefilm. I've now ordered it. I do remember Stanley Clark's name somewhere from a disc in the 70s!

So where is it then ?

Am I the only person that thinks Oppo is taking a little (or infact a lot) too long to actually make the UK spec 831 available for purchase ?

Andrew E, any chance you can nudge your Oppo contact into providing a realistic indication of when it will actually be available, or even suggest they make it available before the rest of the competition launch their latest generation of players too ?

As much as I'm keen on a UK spec 831, if it's not available soon I'll just buy something else. Get a move on Oppo !
