Hi,

Maybe Oppo are importing huge numbers of players so that if a positive review comes out, they have enough stocks? We need to wait till that ship sails in...

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

Sorry, frustration at the delays - and impending Awards deadlines - is getting to me....

Oppo aren't exactly inspiring confidence. Even if they managed to get their website up-and-running with a likely indication of release date/price, it would be helpful...

Have you completed your reviews and are just waiting for pricing before allocating a rating, or do you have to do a further review with the pricing in mind during the review?

Cheers

We have done our testing, but of course are waiting to discover availability and pricing before we come to a firm conclusion.

And BTW Oppo is clearly still working on things - over the course of last weekend the player did two automatic firmware updates via the cheapo Ethernet gaming-type wi-fi adapter we've been using during testing...

To be fair to Oppo, there probably wouldn't have been this amount of anticipation over the release of the product if it hadn't been for CRT selling the US version which has prompted those of us who bought it to sing it's praises to the unconverted. They're now perhaps having to speed their European schedule up because of US palyer sales over here.

That'll be speeding up in the 'first week of September, no hang on first week of October, oh well definitely some time before the end of the year' sense then, will it?

Frustrated like many others I sent Oppo an e-mail requesting the release date in Europe (not that I really thought I as the only one it seems like would get a such date). The reply was the following:

"The European version is being prepared for launch (definitely 2009, earliest in early October)".

Not exactly reassuring if you ask me. There are still more than 3 months left of 2009...

And for a product to be eligible for our Awards, it has to be on sale by October 20th - the date our Awards issue goes on sale/website goes live....

Still, at the very least we've got a European spec Oppo player we're able to compare against all the other newcomers

although, for print-run porpoises (or indeed any other aquatic mammals involved in the print media), I assume you'll need firm confirmation way before 20 October of a release date?

Or indeed confirmation subject to checking on or after October 20th.

Just got a Facebook message from Oppo from a previous comment I made on the Oppo UK Facebook page...

"Guys guys, you don't have to wait too much! From the half of october the player will be available, finally...
About the price, it will be around 499 euros."I hope this helps, but recognise it's still not enough confirmation for what the WHFSV team need.I'm not sure which half of October they're referring to

Update: the Oppo online UK shop will go live next Wednesday, October 7, at which point we'll put my hands-on blog live on the site - probably quite early on Wed, given that I'll be working on Japan time next week!

The price will be £449, which will include a Spears & Munsil Blu-ray calibration and test disc, plus an AIX Records Blu-ray HD sampler and audio calibration disc

The magazine review will follow in the December issue, on sale November 13th.
