Andrew Everard:
Don't you hate those programmes that spend the first five minutes after each break telling you again what you were watching before the break...?

But for those viewers who've just joined us, you're watching What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision, not Will Harris Sound and Vision.

hahaha thankyou for that laugh Andrew as i needed that with the day ive had & still having. I'll say one thing, that Will is certainly passionate about the oppo,...

jase fox:pete321:have I mentioned how good it is at playing SACD's?SACD'S still actually exist? Thought they went out with minidisc?

Apparently that's what Royal Mail think as well, perhaps they've burnt 'em!

pete321:What's the record number of views for a thread, cos of course, it'd have be Oppo that would have to win.

Well this one is running at over 107,000 views and almost 3000 replies, so this one is quite a tiddler by comparison.

But as I said before, where there's a Will...

In that case it's a WHF conspiracy, you've doctored the thread to make sure the Oppo thread doesn't win!

To be fair, Will nominated it, but it had no second....unlike every other product on the shortlist. Still, plenty of time for other products to shine in our main Awards judging

JohnDuncan:Talking of winning, I hope you've all been over to the Awards Site to vote for the Oppo for Readers' Product of the Year (or at least you could have done if anybody had cared enough to nominate it)

Seeing as you all seem to believe that it isn't officially released yet, I take it the Oppo will be eligable for next years' awards round?

By then, people will have had a chance to read your review (I can't believe it won't be out by September 2010 LOL) and largely, get on with buying it from Oppo UK. Seems only fair that if you won't release the review, you also hold over it's qualification for entry in 2010.

There you go, telling us how to run the magazine again, Will...

Any product released too late for the 2009 Awards, and thus reviewed in the issues from 12/09 to 11/10 will, provided it's still available, be eligible for the 2010 Awards.

As good as it is, it was the DacMagic for me, albeit that mine doesn't much resemble sonically the one I bought! It sounds great, can be used with up to 3 sources, it'll outlast the Oppo BDP-83, and is excellent value for money plus relatively cheap to modify and take your music to another level.

I think it's worth mentioning that on the 'other forum' that Will talks of, of which I and a few others here are also members, they're also holding off on publishing their review. They've had the unit for a while now and have had the review ready for a few weeks now but were asked to hold off by Oppo until they launched the website and had enough stock to meet initial demand. From reading this thread I guess WHF have a similar take on things. I'm eagerly awaiting the reviews. The Oppo's definitely going to be a contender for my cash come Xmas time if they turn out to be positive.

rogueelement:By the way...is the LHC fixed yet?

Err, no, not quite yet, cooldown is in progress again but the facility shuts down over winter apparently, so they don't expect to run again until November 2009, hopefully.

Clare Newsome:I'll have a wild guess that the 'other Forum' aren't being unjustly accused of being 'industry stooges' though. Sigh.....

Clare, the other site doesn't publish a consumer magazine.

Neither do they delete posts, censor threads, prevent mention of said other site's name. They let people talk, which is what a forum is for.

That they review kit is a bonus, but they don't make money by selling them, or their magazine as they don't have one. They're solely for the forum members, of which there are many, as they're seen as a benign organisation.

Sorry about the "industry stooge" point, but it was more a link than a label. It was conditional in the context I used it. I don't want to make you guys out to be the devil, I just question in who's best interest it is sometimes. Quite frankly if Oppo are asking their review to be held back that's quite different, but why they'd want to do that when so many have released reviews is a bit beyond me. Though of course, having a review co-ordinated with availability means not missing out on a lot of positive impulse buys. I can see why from THEIR point of view, they'd want all their ducks in a row before blowing the whistle.

Erm, so the advertisements they carry are run on a charitable basis? Get real, please - they too are a business.

Clare Newsome:They don't censor threads containing slanderous untruths, either - if they did that, we may be better disposed to allow links.

I'm sure as the Editor of a magazine you're more than capable or wording replies to any slanderous untruths rather than censoring them?

I and the team are more than happy to address issues here about any aspect of the magazine or website - what we can't do is address every other Forum elsewhere.

However, just as on here if anyone makes an outrageous accusation about anything we are quick to demand facts on the matter, i'd expect others to uphold a similar level of standards. Sadly, this is rarely so.
