Hi

I was wandering if What Hi Fi are planning on reviewing any JL Audio Home subwoofers?

Because I like the sound of their Mobile gear for cars I was wandering how they would match up to the current line of traditional brands from the home hi-fi heritage as the specs on theses things look really impressive.[:p]

Thanks

I ran a 12W3 for a couple of years until I decided I wanted less outright bass and more punch.

Sold it to a mate who then bought another. He ran 'em both off some HiFonics amp which was about 2 foot long and running the voicecoils bridged to 1 ohm.

Only car I've ever been in where the bass actually made me feel sick.

I would hope JL's home subs don't cause a similar reaction.

JL Audio is really good at making subwoofers. Not just about loudness if they are boxed correctly and ran correctly they are unbeliveabley accurate. I am intrigued as I personally believe in the car audio market in terms of what you pay for and what you get for your money is far more advanced compared to buying home audio. This is good because this race for performance products in the car audio game is seen as real challenge and this competitive attitude has lead to some amazing products. The amount of development that goes on in some of these specialist brands like JL Audio and Genesis is astonishing. I would love it if What hi-fi did a comparison with say a Cyrus home amplifier to a Genesis Dual mono (DMA) version. I am sure the Genesis will beat it. What I really mean is performance per pound car audio will win. Well What Hi-Fi if you want to try this type of thing one day when you want something different to write about, maybe you can give this a go. Even better if you could start reviewing car audio aswell in general and make it a part of your mag which seems to have more ads then content nowadays lol.

Another site did a review of the gotham, and yes it performed very well, but its a stupid price. at like 12,000 US dollars.

I can think of other things to spend my money on

Just had a look and the other subs they sell are around 6,000 US.

I would rather buy 2 RSW12's I am sure that would be more than enough to break glass if needed.

you could buy a top of the line amp and speakers to match and still have change left over for a nice lcd or plasma.

EDIT: Sorry didnt realise you were talking about a Car Subwooofer to a Home one.

But again cant see were this is going as if I put two monolith BK subs in a car I am sure it would destroy your ear drums. I think home subwoofers and car, are pretty much the same... No?

I love Genesis stuff. I had a P300X (they later simplified the name to just '5 Channel') amp for 10 years, until Novemeber '07 when some toerag smashed my back window and took it along with my Alpine CD changer and the two Pioneer flat piston subs I was using at the time.

That's the problem with having nice stuff in a car, which is why I now just have an Alpine CD tuner and two pairs of JL Audio 5"x7" 2-way co-axs in the doors.

Get a good alarm and also have it securely fitted and hidden away so they cant get to it. Also good to get a car with high security like a Lexus. But yeh I actually have the Genesis 5 channel aswel with the audiophile speakers and subs. Sounds completley holographic. I just got bored of the home audio abit and found more of the enthusiast attitude in the car audio realm alot more appealing. Not to mention it defo impresses the ladys lol

. Bit boring having loads of kit at home with neighbours complaining and no one to share your music with. Defo alot more better and fun in the car especially when your going out. So I drive away and annoy other peoples neighbours in my car instead lol.

I ran 3 x 10W6 back around 1995. The way they were wired sounded like 6 subs.

The sub box filled most of my boot (XR3i) and with the amps mounted on top of the sub box, the whole thing weighed 8 stone ! That was an exercise work out getting that in and out of the car !

I supervised whilst watching the men do the work !

Went through shockers every year at the back ! Fabulous sounding subs !

I am alot more sensible now and have the standard Mini gear, but I still overspend on Hifi for the home !

This is it people assume it's juvenille. The thing is it really is not if your serious. I am not talking about just boom boom bass and SPL here I am talking about comparing car audiophile gear in comparison to home audiophile gear. An 18 year old who has just gone and raided Halfords doesn't count lol. Having said that alot of the younger guys do tend to know alot about technology and also have a great understanding about sound quality especially in my era I duno now the youngns seems quite happy with an Oyster card
