Hi, I just ordered the 60" Pioneer and before I receive it, I want to take the necessary precautions.

Here is the thing - most of what I watch, unfortunately, is still analog 4:3 TV.  I am aware of being really careful for the first 100-200 hours and to make sure that i display the full screen.  The thing is after that period, I would like to revert back to watching that 4:3 material in its native form as I experimented watching that stuff with zoom on my current LCD and think it looks horrible.  The pioneer uses grey bars which I heard reduces the risk of image retention.

So my question is - if I take the necessary precautions during the 100-200 hour break in period and then use the grey bars on the side for regular 4:3 material (together with pixel orbiter etc) - am i running a big risk of burn in?

I have 3 Plasma screens, one of which dates back to well before any anti-burn tech was employed by the sets and none of them have any issues with perminant Image Retension (burn). They Grey bars do lower the risk as the differance between the image contrast/brightness and the side bars when viewing 4:3 is lower.

I think you're worrying too much. I haven't even read of one case of retention on the Kuros, let alone burn-in. Just use the set and enjoy it with sensible settings (Not Dynamic obviously). You're probably aware of the other forum where you can get recommended settings. Just use those as there's no real need to 'run-in' the Kuros. Just change the channel every 2-3 hours for the first few weeks and you should be fine. If you want to be really cautious, just leave the Orbiter switched on.

Ok thanks guys. So basically you are saying that as long as I am careful in the first 200 hours I should have to worry about it even if I watch 4:3 material in its native form with grey bars.
