I am looking to upgrade my powerchords, looking around on e-bay, various sellers recommend Belden cables, as very good and as being used in good named brands. how good are these cables and how do they compare to ready named cables, Ex Chord,QED, Clearear Audio and Merlin.

I can't comment on the Belden. Some time ago i considered Belden but went for Lapp cables. After that i tried about an other 6 mains cables from different brands becausse i wanted to make sure in my mind i had the best for what i wanted to spend on mains cables. I had the best results with Wireworld cables when compared to the Lapp. The other cables in my test allthough better then a standard mains cable didn't do much. I ended up with Wireworld cables to in this test becausse one dealer with years of experience in hifi told me he had the best and consistent results so far with this brand, he is also a dealer of Chord wich is loved here, so without his comment i wouldn't have tried Wireworld, and in my system it sounded like he was right. I now have a Wireworld Electra bronze cable going to a power block for the front end and an Wireworld Aurora going to an other power block for amps, from there i am going with Lapp cables to the components. Replacing all the cables with Wireworlds would be to expensive for me but noticed that changing one going to a power block made a difference for all the equipment even when the last meter after the power block didn't have a Wireworld cable.

That is my experience, sorry i couldn't help you regarding to Belden.

Every cable seller will say his cables are the best, my advice is to try some and see, you can always send it back as with anything bought on the net, the belden has been around for over 20 years (19364 grade). It was made popular by Bob Crump of TG Audio labs who noticed that Levinson equipment came with the belden cable power lead so he went about buying the belden and making his own, 20 years of use it must be good surely? It is often known as the audio asylum power cord as Bob posted his findings on a forum so the cable was named after the forum. The original asylum cord had a USA mains plug and a schurter iec, as long as you keep the belden cable and either make your own or buy the mains lead already wired up it will do you proud (IMHO).
