speech sounds poor from my system

I have a Panasonic TH-42PX60, Denon DVD 1940, Denon AVR1906, Cambridge Audio Azur 640C V2 and Monitor Audio Bronze BR2 Standmounts on Soundstyle Z2 speaker stands plus matching centre speaker, old sony rear speakers and an eltax sub all connected with QED Qunex HDMI, QED silver anniversary XT speaker wire, IXOS XHD-608-100 digital interconnect and system is sat on a Soundstyle WG 3AV Rack. I Like both Movies and Music and in general I like my system but feel that speech is sometimes swallowed up with the rest of the sound in a movie and is not as clear as it should be. Do I need to change my receiver or can I alter some settings to improve the centre channel. If a new receiver is the answer is it as simple as an Onkyo bearing in mind I want the best stereo sound I can get from a receiver. Cheers

At the risk of S the B O, why not just turn up the level of the centre channel a bit?
