Hi,

Has anyone noticed a problem with the Dynamic LED function?

When watching ladies golf on Sky sports in SD today, you could see the back lighting following the ball across the green.

This disappears when you switch the function off, which is not satisfactory given the amount I have paid to get this functionality.

Youll find most processing modes shouldnt be switched on (Thats for ANY tv)

Enjoy your tv as it should be seen, with 'dynamic LED' switched off

i have the same model. Haven't noticed it. Don't tend to watch golf. I have found the same principle applies though, had a Philips before and had to turn everything off because the picture was so poor. Even had to turn the power switch off sometimes to get a better picture! only kidding. I tend not to adjust any of the settings on the Sony and find it to be very good but I am sure I could improve again still by experimenting with some of the processing functions.

Nevertheless, don't feel that you are wasting money by turning these things off - if the picture improves then this is a good thing. It will still use the LED backlighting even with the dynamic switched off.

Thanks for that,

Have you noticed on one of the factory settings that contrast is set to maximum?

I would think anything, any machine where the manufacturers set a control to maximum needs a redesign!

I keep looking for perfection in a TV.

My Toshiba 36ZP18P had grey banding at the sides of the picture and weighed 75kg.

My Pioneer PDP-436XDE suffered from screen burn, oh sorry image retention issues that never went away, even after 5 years of use!

My Sony 52X903 is still being evaluated as I work through a plethora of menu settings.

What I can say is has the best BD picture I have ever seen, and this may be the problem, everything else looks worse.

A bit like looking through a microscope, any image problem is magnified.

umm. I was disappointed with SD but pleased with HD. Are you viewing Sky HD through it or freeview HD?

I have a Sky HD box but only use the free channels at the moment .

The reason being that I could not watch sport on my Pioneer due to the fixed graphics causing screen burn.

Once I am back from my hols I will get things sorted, assuming I keep it!

i am locked into the HD package because it is so much better than SD, Fairly sure though you will find that with all TV's

Have a good holiday

I have a Sony 52HX903 and the main issue I have with HD is picture noise. It gives the picture a grainy look. Some programs are worse than others. Also, during a single program, the effect comes and goes. Noise reduction is set to low by default, and I've left it at that setting otherwise motion seems to suffer.

i am no expert on this but what source is your HD - Sky or Freeview?

It sounds as though you are getting this picture noise from an interference. Have you checked all your leads and interconnects? There is much debate about not spending loads of money on mains conditioners and expensive HDMI leads etc, but in my experience (and it's just my opinion), using a fairly inexpensive mains conditioner such as

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tacima-Conditioner-Frequency-Interference-Filter/dp/B000PS5700

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tacima-Conditioner-Frequency-Interference-Filter/dp/B000PS5700and a HDMI that is perhaps not the cheapest available this may make the difference.

For example, I noticed picture noise with a Chord 1.3 but not with an Audioquest 1.4 Cinnamon HDMI.

You need to try a few different options from a friendly retailer that would be prepared for you to trial a couple of alternatives but ..... don't spend too much on this as it can get very expensive if you are not careful!

Let me know your findings.

I have the same model in 46" form, but as a few others mentioned before, before i even watched anything i turned pretty much everything off and turned contrast etc down, i think with these basic guideliness i have a phenominal picture, havent had any problems with mine.

Thanks very much for your suggestions jcshutts and jst23. I'll try out your suggestions and will let you know how I get on - will take a week or so to get the mains conditioner.

I'm viewing HD through a sky box - currently directly from the sky box to the tv, although I have a Pioneer SC-LX73 on order so will soon be connecting through that.

I have a £50 Wireworld Chroma 6 HDMI cable but dont notice any difference between using that and the HDMI cable which came with the sky box.

I take my Sky HD direct from the Sky box too and believe this is better than channelling through another device such as an amp or DVD/Blu-ray. It is worth experimenting a little though. Have you installed the latest firmware for the TV from the Sony support website? I have tweaked my settings a little although still have most of the default settings in place (against the advice of others!). The Standard picture setting on the TV is great from my perspective and I took a little advice from a previous thread.

I certainly didn't find it necessary to change settings in order to remove picture noise.

Once you have eliminated all things it will either be the sky box/signal or the TV itself. Did you buy through a Sony centre or similar that can come and have a look at it for you? It might also be worth checking the settings of your sky box as it will indicate you signal strength. My signal strength is showing a horizontal graph bar at about 60% and signal quality at about 75%

Good luck
