Hi there,

the Samsung I bought in 2009 had bad clouding and I asked Currys to give me a refund within two days. They were extremely helpful and came to take it away within two days on a Sunday and repayed into my credit card account after two more days. This doesnt help you I know but you must be firm and reject the TV on the grounds that it is not fit for purpose. The dealer has had a chance to fix it and failed so you have the right for your money back. Go and see trading standards for advice and write to the manufacturer if necessary if they refuse to take it back. The first thing you must do though is write ( a letter) and take it to the manager asking for a refund and give them maybe two weeks to take it away. After that if you have no joy get in touch with trading standards and ask them how to proceed, that is what they are there for.

For your information my Samsung UE55C8000 has no clouding at all and I am very fussy about TV pictures, so it is possible to get good pictures from LCD sets. Good luck with your problem solving.

Andrew,

Sorry for the late reply but just got back from an xmas and new year away. I don't beleive what you have been through with those bunch of monkeys at Brighthouse BUT you are entitled to a full refund on any money you have paid them up to the point when you returned the tv, it's not right that you just let them walk away from the issue with your money as this won't stop them from doing this to many more customers. I do totally understand that you just wanted an end to it but i hate to see retailers getting away with such poor service unpunished which in my opinion they should be as they claimed to have repaired the tv when infact it came back with the same problem prompting me to assume that the engineer has sight issues because how else can someone not spot the blindingly obvious fault??

I hope you went to a proper retailer for your replacement tv as you won't want a repeat of that experience in a hurry eh! You have made a good choice with the new tv and you got a much better deal by the sounds of it too so i just hope that the new one gives you more pleasure than the old one with no problems (fingers crossed). As it's plasma you should have no backlight issues atall so let's hope you are alot happier with it when it gets delivered, but i can't blame you from wanting to steer away from LED as i feel exactly the same way about any LCD tv including LED.

At least one good thing came out of your experience, anyone that has read this thread surely won't buy a tv from the not so bright people at Brighthouse and for that everyone should be thankful.

Wishing you lots of happy viewing in the years ahead,

Nick.

BTW god forbid but if you have any more issues you know where to post!

Andrew,

Good to hear you are happy with the new tv and that you bought it from a recognised retailer

As for picture settings you will find that a plasma needs to be set up completely differently to an lcd because as a rule they are capable of much deeper blacks than lcd. To calibrate the screen you will need a THX dvd such as Star Wars and use the optimiser in the menu to set up the picture, you can try to guess of course but you will never get it right and besides it's a simple process and all is explained on the menu's so that you get the best from your screen. Hope that helps in some way
