Rega RP6 missing part and hairline crack

Whilst I agree a hailine crack is a bit more than 'slight imperfections in the paintwork' it is hardly going to change the sound this deck has.

I know it is a pain but i think you are going to have to bite the bullet and return it asking them to refund whatever you paid for it (and any postage involved) then pay the full whack for a new one from another dealer.

I once traded some brand new Mission Elegante speakers at Moorgate Accoutics for B&W MT30 speaker package. But they were slightly marked when I got them home, they arranged for them to be collected and sent the replacement package straight away. All brand new and shiny. It was a good trade.

Was the MT30 package you first got advertised as ex-demo, or was it supposed to be brand new ?

I thought it was suppose to be brand new. I just asked could I trade some brand new Mission Elegante speakers for the B&W MT30 speaker, they said yes we could do that, I paid £250 on top for some stands for them. I got them home and they were marked, so I rang them up and said they would change them. They looked like they were ex demo - for sure! Not all the packaging was there either. But I did get brand new ones. They are pretty close to Sheffield United's ground.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see what they suggest. I did state in my second email that I would prefer a direct replacement, rather than a refund, but I'm really not sure how the law lies with goods originally described as slight seconds.

I was trying to put myself in their position, and if I was them, I would just say sorry, nothing we can do, here's a refund.

I suppose I would get on the phone with them and see what can be done.

Heard from Moorgate today, and they say they definitely don't have any stock, but they'll contact Rega to see what can be done.

Not sure quite what they mean by that, probably try and source a hub I suppose, but wether the hairline crack makes any difference to the sound or not, cracks only worsen, they never get better, so I don't want to keep this unit.

I'm hoping that they're trying to source another slight second RP6 instead, we'll see.

Proves a little persistancy pays off. Let's hope they can source one to your liking.

If that's what they meant (and I really don't know), then I'd take a black or white.

you might be pleasantly surprised, I ordered a ex-dem RP6 back in February from Moorgate and received a brand spanking new one direct from Rega so I assumed they sold the deck twice in error and sourced another. I've had a couple of 'b' stock Rega's from Moorgate in the past and any 'slight' defect was barely noticeable but not a hairline crack (definately not slight)

A brand spanking new one from Rega would be nice.

Having been told by Moorgate on Wednesday that they would contact Rega to see what can be done, and get back to me within 24 hours, I still have heard nothing. Though they did send a courier to collect the damaged deck on Thursday, without informing me that he was coming, so it wasn't boxed.

The courier came back on Friday to collect the deck, without giving us any kind of receipt for the collection, and meanwhile, Moorgate haven't contacted me, or replied to my email sent Friday lunchtime.

So I have no idea what is happening, I'm £549 down, no turntable, and no receipt.

Don't like phone calls gel, dealers can fob you off with any old ********, I like things in writing, and I like dealers who take your hard earned money to do what they say they will do.

They've been poor, and I'm not happy.

Moorgate Acoustics have been around for a long time with a good reputation and knowledgeable staff. I don't think they are going to rip you off. Give them a ring and talk to them. It's got to be better than sat winding yourself up and complaining about them on a forum :)

You're probably right, but I'm not going to ring them, they need to do what they said they would do, and that is contact me.

And I'm not all wound up, I'm calm, and enjoying my day. Honestly.

Fair enough, just think it might help to know what is going on. They might be able to sort something else out for you, they did with me on the phone. Then you could always ask for it in writing or an email. At the moment you don't seem to know where you stand. Mind you he might not even be working today, so you might have to wait to Monday.

Personally I would call, I realise you said you are calm. But perhaps someone was nominated to call you and either forgot or was off sick.

I have not used the company, but I get the feeling you are not happy and waiting around is not helping the situation and is giving you a bad opinion of them, when i fact they may have a good reason for the lak of response.

Sorry if this seems arrogant, but I have been in a simillar situaation and your mind works overtime.

Well Mitch65, I hope you're very hungry, because I've not heard a thing from MA.

I've emailed them again, and before you all say I should ring them, I'm working in an area with no mobile reception, so sorting out this problem would be impossible, and I get back home later than MA close.

Can't quite believe you guys rate them so highly to be honest, and after all this, I just want my money back.

BBB, it's up to you whether you phone them or not, I can only tell you of my dealings with them over the last few years with no complaints.

I agree that MA should have contacted you by now and I'm certainly not going to make excuses on their behalf.

I'm going to give them one more day, then I'll have to ring them later in the week if no reply.

As I said earlier, I have no mobile reception where I've been working, so it's not been possible for the last few weeks.

And Mitch, nobody likes a cheat.
