Rega RP6 missing part and hairline crack

The cartridge arrived today, so I unpacked the RP6 for the first time, and after much confusion, I realised that the aluminium hub is missing.

I've also discovered a hairline crack in the paint work next to the top brace.

Not such a happy birthday then.

I've actually just emailed the dealer.

And the reason I "ranted" on here, was that I was in the middle of a "help me" type post, thinking that I was doing something wrong, as there is a distinct lack of information in the supplied booklet.

My wife actually discovered there was a missing part from watching a you tube video,. otherwise I would still be none the wiser, hence the tone and title of the post changed.

Thanks though.

Thanks guys.

It will have to be a total replacement though, so I hope they still have some left.

I am.

Not sure what to do, but the sensible thing would be to get a refund I suppose.

Surely if they haven't got a like-for-like component, then they are obliged to source one. Or maybe that's the conditions of buying with a heavy discount. Still can't believe you didn't check the TT long before the cartridge turned up.

I'm not sure what they'll do, will just have to wait until tomorrow to see what they suggest.

It did arrive only last Thursday, so it hasn't been hanging around for long.

Plus, I wanted to open it on my birthday, which is today, as I thought it'd make the day a bit more special, but unfortunately, it's just ****** the day up instead.

Well, I received a reply from Moorgate Acoustics, but I'm still none the wiser.

They apologised, and have asked me when they can take the deck back, or in their words, "uplift this from you", but they have made no reference to a replacement or a refund.

To be honest, when I bought the RP6, they still had 5 white ones in stock, so presumably, 5 people after me got perfect turntables, and I'm just unlucky.

I'm not sure, but would I be within my rights to demand a replacement, even if it means that they have to supply me a full priced one for the same money I paid?

Get a full refund and find a hi-fi shop who will check a product is in good order before despatching it. (Or a hi-fi shop you can go to and check the item is working for yourself before paying for it.)

Only problem with that is I'll be paying full price, where as, this was reduced because of slight imperfections in the paint work.

So where do I stand on insisting on a replacement?

Well that explains the hairline crack in the paintwork. (Although it doesn't explain the missing hub.)

I have no idea where you stand when buying 'seconds' or 'B stock.

In this case you can only argue about the hub as you have knowingly accepted 'slight imperfections in the paint work' before purchase. Perhaps they can get Rega to send out a hub for you.

But in their email reply, they do state, and I quote, "Any crack is more than cosmetic".

Any imperfection in the paintwork should be cosmetic only, a crack, as they state themselves, is more than cosmetic, it's (to use a building term) structual. And for this reason, I do not want to keep this turntable, even if they do send me a replacement hub.

I once traded some brand new Mission Elegante speakers at Moorgate Accoutics for B&W MT30 speaker package. But they were slightly marked when I got them home, they arranged for them to be collected and sent the replacement package straight away. All brand new and shiny. It was a good trade.
