Cables, my belief is you don't have to spend a lot on them, but enough to ensure they do the job properly...

I missed both the original programme on Monday evening and its repeat in the early hours of Friday, but I've watched it on 4oD. Actually they didn't say Poundland, they said "The pound shop", of which Poundland is but one .... I saw a cheap, about £5, HDMI cable, I think that it was about two metres long, in Lidl the other day, might give that a bash .....
