Richer Sounds will only price match on a 5 year warranty mate. Stick with John Lewis you managed that price match on a one year warranty.

Ooops I forgot about that but then John Lewis have price matched the Total Digital offer with a 5 year warranty so I could use that with Richer Sounds no? I don't really want to go to them and would much rather buy from John Lewis despite the rocky start.

Richer Sounds are a lot more fussy! They will want like for like. John Lewis even price match on one year warranties - Richer Sounds don't.

John Lewis it is then eh! Many thanks gel :)

No probs.

Technically, you can show Richer Sounds the John Lewis offer email with the 5-year warranty and ask them to price match. ;)

That's what I thought but I will await a reply from John Lewis before I decide what i'm going to do, I don't really want to buy from Richer Sounds simply because their nearest store is alot further away from me than John Lewis but if I don't get a good response from them concerning their price match offer I will certainly consider going to Richers although my last tv experience with them wasn't great which also goes against them.

As soon as I get a response from John Lewis I will decide what i'm going to do and when i'm going to purchase but the Samsung UE55F8000 remains my prefered tv. Thanks for the advice bigboss and worst case senario is that I ask Richers to match that offer if i'm not happy with John Lewis's response...it's good to have options ;)

Went to Turkey, Hisoranu, lovely place. I didn't want to go (take the better half 11 years to convince me) and were already planning our next trip. Rested, recharged and ready to go :)

I just found this

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/input-lag

and looked at the input lag you mentioned, the Samsung says 44ms and your Sony says 32ms, so just wondered where you got the figure from to say they were similar?

Hopefully you'll get the e-mail soon. Will you definately also get the £200 off with a price promise?

You lucky man, very nice. Could do with a break away myself but with a tv to buy it's just not going to happen this year but will keep Turkey in mind for next year now.

Yep that input lag is a strange thing indeed, I will dig out the review that shows the work around and post it for you but basically they said that if you renamed an input to PC and then engaged the Game mode then it reduced the lag to 40 or 41ms if I remember correctly which is good enough for me. I'm certainly not 12 anymore so I will never beat those pesky kids at COD anyway as my 40th is early next year and my twitch reflexes have long since gone lol.

And yes from the Samsung leaflet I read in John Lewis the price paid has no bearing on the cashback so I should indeed get my £200 cashback, the t&c's of the offer only point to having to claim within a specific time frame with a full receipt, price is not mentioned at any time...I was quick to check that out at the store to make sure. Happy days

Good to have you back.

I finally got a reply from John Lewis.com today and it's bad news...in order to purchase the TV at the price match figure of £1856 I would have to pay the full retail price on the site of £2399 and once the TV is delivered claim back the difference via a refund which I just can't cover.

I have £1900 to play with and that's it so does anyone have any ideas where I go from here? Does the same apply in store for example, do I still need to cover the full in store price before claiming back a refund on the difference?

At this rate I will be forced to shop elsewhere but as gel pointed out I won't get as good a deal, seems like I've hit a brick wall and I don't know what to do next. Should I purchase from Total Digital for example and forgo the 5 year warranty? Try Richer Sounds?

I'm now more confused than before I started lol...please help :wall:

I should add I've emailed John Lewis to confirm if the same is true in store but if anyone could tell me now how the price match works in store I would really appreciate it, thank you.

It works totally different in-store, or if you phone your local store and do it on the phone. I don't understand why they are being so fussy!

That is strange. Having said that, if you have a credit card, place the order & email them the order number. They'll put the money back into your card within 3-4 days, which is likely to be within a bill cycle of your card. So effectively, you don't pay extra.

In any case, I would recommend paying by credit card for extra protection.

It's driving me mad gel! As you know it's quite a trip to my local store and I don't want to drive there just to be told it's a no go as it's more expense I don't need yet alone a waste of time...don't they want my money and business??

I'm happy to pay the £1856 price in full yet it would seem to me they don't want to take my money. I will try the store at the weekend if Total Digital are still doing it for the same price and see what they say, fingers crossed I get one for £1856.

I won't be happy if I go all the way there and come back empty handed |(

The best way I can see to do it, is to phone up your local store and try to do it on the phone - the deal, say you want the Samsung have the price match and want to go ahead with it. If they say no, do the price match again with them on the phone, and it will probably take a day on my experience to conclude the deal.

Or go Instore with the email and try and get them to do the deal. If not just start it again, with the price match and get them to deliver and do the price match Instore.

My local shop never charged me the full price, they just waited to do the price match and then go ahead, your local shop should be the same. I do it by phone or Instore. Either way they have never charged me full price, that way you will have it reserved too.

All very useful info, thanks gel.

I will go in store at the weekend and see how I get on there, I will ignore all communication from JL online and just try to deal with it in store.

If they won't play ball I will ask for the manager to get clarification. I really want to leave there with a deal struck at £1856 and having paid in full to collect 2 days later. Can't say I'm 100% confident that will happen now though

Yep, that sounds cool, hopefully it will go ahead, you could always phone them and say you are coming and could they reserve the TV for you, that way you don't have to pay anything and will hopefully get it sorted. They should hold it for 7 days for you.

Oldboy, I found these details from www.ceoemail.com. Maybe worth emailing your experience.

Andy Street, Managing Director

Email: andy_street@johnlewis.co.uk

That sounds a good idea, it can't hurt. At the end of the day they are just being plain awkward!

As gel says, phone them. Not the number off the website but the number for your specific store. They should be able to price match and take payment over the phone, then you just need to go and collect.

Many thanks bigboss.

I will compose an email tomorrow and send it off, as gel said it can't hurt eh. It's at least worth making them aware of my experience up til now which to be polite has not been very positive, my store experience was great but by phone and email it's been alot less positive with barriers seemingly being put in place to prevent me from buying this TV from them.

Of course any reply I receive will be posted in this thread for all to see the response but I have to admit to not feeling confident in purchasing from John Lewis despite their good reputation on these forums. I have found my recent experience baffling and confusing.

I may do it at the weekend but there is a lot to be said for face to face communication. I know from my visit to the store that it will need to be ordered in for me and that I will be able to collect it 2 days later so if I don't visit the store I will give them a call.

Either way I would like to get this sorted out this weekend if at all possible.

(Edit: this was in reply to your 10:13 post.)

I'm really not sure what the problem is. You price matched online not in store. The conditions online were made very clear in their email: (i) you can't use an online price match in store, (ii) if you take up the price match online you have to pay full price and then get a refund. I would have thought the reasons for both conditions are pretty clear. They've never wavered from these conditions, so nothing should be confusing.

I don't see what's to stop phoning up a store and doing a price match that way. Total digital still has the TV at the same price. Or do what BB suggested and pay on credit card, which you should be doing anyway, so you will never pay the extra prior to getting the refund.

Hello Oldboy, I'm sorry that you're having these problems with getting your dream TV machine. If, despite your best efforts, you cannot get a Samsung 55F8000 at a good price, then you may want to consider last year's model, the Samsung U55ES8000? I was at my brother's house at the weekend, and his wife has this TV, the previous model UE55D8000, and the 65" version of last year's set, the UE65ES8000. All looked very good indeed, even the two ES models that my sister-in-law has on Dynamic mode (I changed the UE55D8000 in the spare bedroom to Standard mode!). The point that I'm laboriously making is that last year's ES8000 may still do a job for you? Details of Richer Sounds's price here http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/samsung/ue55es8000/sams-ue55es8000 . You will see that the price is about £1,600, and the five-year guarantee will be a further £160, so within your current maximum budget. But stock is very low now, it's a clearance item, condition may vary, and it is now available only in Hull, Lichfield, Liverpool, London Holborn, Nottingham and Sheffield, with only the Liverpool store having two units. I don't know if you live near any of those places? Lastly, I'm not sure how the UE55ES8000 performs for gaming.

Fair enough Ben point taken.

I perhaps wrongly assumed that I would be able to do a similar deal online to that offered in store and it seemed strange that online you are required to pay the full price before getting a refund some 2 weeks later where as in store it doesn't seem to work like that, that's what I meant by confusing and disappointing. I will be buying in store as a consequence.

As I stated earlier I will be going to the store this weekend and getting the price match done then as I can't get to the store during opening hours during the week. I don't own a credit card simply because I have never trusted myself with one and I prefer to pay for my items outright rather than continue to pay for them over the long term so I use my debit card which is why i'm so careful to do business with a good trustworthy retailer as I know the risks associated when not paying by credit card.

Many thanks for your suggestion Son_of_SJ but the 55ES8000 is a non starter for me as I previously auditioned both the 8000 and 7000 varients last year in 46 inch guise before settling on my current Sony and found both sets suffered from hurrendous backlight issues, clouding and uniformity were major issues and in 3D the problems were exaggerated further with some really terrible backlight bleed in the two bottom corners of the screen that were very distracting and not something I could ever live with.

This years 8000 series has solved those issues of the past and is why it's become such a major contender for me now, I just wouldn't feel comfortable buying an ES8000 as you are entering the panel lottery. I'm sure good examples are out there but as it's a clearance item any issues will not be easily resolved and all those Richer Sounds stores are too far away from me anyway, plus I didn't want to shop there again after my last fight with them to get my Panny plasma fault rectified.

It's John Lewis at the weekend for me and if I can't get the tv for the price match price then it will be time for a rethink but i'm hoping it won't come to that
