Right i've made the call to my local store and.....they didn'y say dismiss the claim from the details I had given them but now I have to wait 48 hours for an answer so fingers crossed that the man from John Lewis he say yes

The person answering the call was surprised at how much lower the price from Total Digital was to which I said that's why i'm calling!

Will update you when I get an answer.

Lets hope they agree it. Let me know as that give me some thinking.

Your based in Kent/Essex aren't you?

Fingers crossed they do

Yes I'm based in Essex for my sins (insert Essex man joke here) so will let you know the outcome, my nearest John Lewis store is 17miles away from me which could be a problem when it comes to the price match. I'm not expecting good news but you never know eh.

No it doesn't matter how far John Lewis store is from you. According to price match conditions, the store you want to price match with should be within 8-mile radius to John Lewis.

But they will make exemptions!

Very interesting that gel, thank you.

So from reading that article then John Lewis should price match Total Digital as a one off price match but won't lower their price in store as the price from them is not local to the store. I will argue that point if they say no then and see what the response is but judging from that article there should be no arguments as it meets all the criteria they set out.

I contacted Total Digital today about the Samsung 55F8000 to get a few more details just in case John Lewis won't honour the price match and interestingly the reply email was from Electronic Empire so Total Digital are a part of Electronic Empire which was where I originally spotted the lower price that I first emailed them about and asked them to price match.

I have been assured that the TV is a UK model and not a grey import but they are not an authorised dealer of Samsung products although they are for many other manufacturers such as Sony and Panasonic so if John Lewis doesn't price match how much of a risk would it be to buy from Total Digital? Of course I will be waving goodbye to a 5 year warranty and all the assurances and peice of mind from buying from John Lewis but having never dealt with these people before I was wondering if anyone has any experience in purchasing from them?

I have used Total Digital twice and each time they were great! I bought a Sony DVD camcorder from them for about £200 about 5 years back I think. And my dad purchased a VIdeo Recorder from them for about £500 about 20 years ago and that was great too. Still try and buy from John Lewis though.

Their terms look good:

http://www.totaldigital.biz/index.php?main_page=page&id=2&zenid=rcf10soanr0ise0rk0qbt4fnq0

You have 7 days to use and still change your mind by the looks of it.

These are part of Distance Selling regulations for online orders. Every online store in the UK must adhere to that.

I went through the T&C's carefully on the Total Digital site this morning and bigboss is completely correct as the company abide by the distance selling regulations but that doesn't always mean you can use it and return it although the Total Digital site makes no mention of this, all it states is that the 7 days start after the day of delivery.

It's good to hear some positive feedback about the company and especially as it was over a good period of time as I feel far more comfortable that they are an established business but even so that is probably plan c at the moment but something to bear in mind, thanks for the feedback gel.

Its not looking good for me at the mo, getting passed around like the flu!

oldboy,

i would recommend you seriously considering your next purchase on credit card for some extra piece of mind. I might well have to go down that route as a backup :wall:

I think the ideal that you can use a newly brought TV then say you do not want it and return it on the distant selling regulation have been over stated by a forum member here. There is no such thing.

I have read that TD small print and clearly the return of an item is implicit on not having used the product and the same with JL and Richer Sounds. Once you ripped up the smaller packaging of the accessories and assembled the stand and plugged in the TV,then who is going buy that set if returned to the shop, unless it is faulty. The set is no longer new as it has been used.

To open the A list boxed item and see the wrapped up items are fine and could be put back together in the box and returned and the set can still be sold as new.

If in doubt ask or get an email confirmaton on the matter. No company will ever issue a written statement to say you can use a prestige TV then return it almost on a trial and buy basis, unless it saids so. Richer sounds will dock a 20% fee on such a return.

Oldie,if JL says 'No' to price match, just buy from total digital and the cheap extended 5 year warranty. I also would ensure the five year warranty is on site. You cannot lose with either firm but it is time to close the chapter and start enjoying the TV.

With John Lewis you can definitely use and return, not sure with Total Digital, Frank Harvey offered these terms too.

That's a shame but stick with it and persist and i'm sure a positive result will be yours.

I'm not going to buy with a credit card for the reasons given earlier, I have never used a credit card to purchase any of my equipment and have only ever had one issue in getting my GT30 problem sorted from Richer Sounds but even then I got there in the end and negotiated my 46HX853 as a replacement so it doesn't concern me.

As long as I buy from a good retailer I have no worries in using my Visa debit card for payment plus it's mine and I don't have a monthly bill to look forward to 8)

I got a call from John Lewis this afternoon about the price match request I submitted to my local store so here goes....

First of all I got a call from a really nice lady just after lunch who informed me that sadly John Lewis would NOT match the Total Digital price for three reasons...1, they were of the opinion that the shop had no physical store of the same name and that it was an online arm of the retailer. 2, the offer did not include a 5 year warranty and lastly there was a £30 delivery charge for the tv.

Now knowing what gel told me about the retailer having a physical shop and confirming this myself I argued my case that the retailer was genuine and had a store of the same name trading as a retail outlet on the High Street and that the online site was the same retailer with the same details and address. I accepted that the 5 year warranty was not included but argued that John Lewis online had price matched this tv from the same retailer under these conditions and that they had agreed that Total Digital were a genuine retailer with a physical store and offered the price match, I told her I had a reference number and email to confirm this. She agreed to go away and talk it over with the team dealing with it and call me back...I wasn't hopeful they would do it but I fought my corner and gave them something to think about at least.

About half an hour later I get a second call from the store from a really nice chap called Alex and I was poised to add the info on the Guardian article gel pointed me towards yesterday as extra ammunition when I was told that on this occasion as a one off they would match the Total Digital price but I would have to pay the extra £30 that they add on for delivery so finally John Lewis price matched at £1886 with a 5 year warranty for the UE55F8000 which I wasn't about to argue with.

I've got the tv reserved for me at the store and all that remains is to go there tomorrow and pay for it and pray it fits in the car (Ford Focus), I did find the dimensions of the tv boxed yesterday so will measure up later but I think it will fit OK.

All that's left to say is very many thanks to gel in particular for his invaluable help in dealing with John Lewis because without it I really think they wouldn't have matched what is a cracking price...thank you very much mate I can't thank you enough

And to everyone else who has been kind enough to comment on this thread I thank you all for taking the time and effort to help me and share your opinion and it's at times like these when you come to appreciate what an invaluable bunch you all are, I respect your opinions and it was all taken onboard whilst making my decision. Again I can't thank you all enough as it's been brilliant that you have all continued to comment on this thread and help me come to the right choice for my needs so thank you to all of you

All that remains is to get it tomorrow and start enjoying my new 55F8000 tv.....I really can't wait
