Big Aura:basically Bart ordered a spy camera and then every day for the next two months badgered the "female mailman person" as to where it was....

Poor Bart, must be rather like badgering the CIA for performance statistics.

I can picture Homer now: "So Mr. CIA man, have you saved me again this morning from the terrible terrorists?" CIA man (in dodgy spy like voice) "Yes we have". Homer "Oh thank you, thank you." Must be one of those rare jobs where success is defined by what doesn't happen. And no-one can prove you wrong!

But the Oppo is not a spy camera, and Andrew Everard doesn't look like the Simpsons female mailman person. Much.

Approx 15000 hits, is this the most looked at thread ever?

Obviously a lot of interest in this product , my self included ,and when the review is published a lot of mags will be sold

But the main thing is , will there be a UK version of the OPPO 83 and when is it due to be released?

Will it be to the same spec as the 83 lot of rumour it will be a lite version no Anchor bay , no discs included etc , if which case they can EDITED BY MODS.

Now everyone says that OPPO support is second to none so surely they by now can provide this info especially with the influence that WHF has and on the back of UK interest

Last thing, with the greatest of respect to the person who has a OPPO 83 ,whats up with you , let it lie , do you think the UK version is going to be better in some regard?

All the US reviews already rate the 83 as their reference player , so enjoy the one you have.

The 83 is available now by a UK seller and if I really, really wanted one I could purchase it there , until I see some well respected UK reviewers opinion , and not necessarily WHF's then I will wait

So come on OPPO get off the fence ,make a statement and price so all the reviews on different forums can be published ,unless you think there is going to be a tremendous demand and want to EDITED BY MODS the British consumer like so many other AV company's

No, not by a long chalk

Yes, it's called the BDP-831, and as I have said several times it is of the same spec as the US one, apart from region-coding and firmware version. It's due to be release imminently, via a dedicated UK online shop. We are waiting for confirmation of when that site will be live, and the exact price.

Mmmmm... I'm not so sure.

The Oppo has long ceased to be of any interest to me. This thread however, is eminently entertaining.

I'm here for the entertainment value too. Has anyone ever become so agitated in waiting for the opportunity to say "see, I told you! didn't I, didn't I?"

"see, I told you! didn't I, didn't I?"

Well that remains to be seen, someone may be in for a shock.

With all the Hype , and all the Yank reviewers deeming it their new reference player all other manufacturers may as well close shop

But after all it is only an opinion , I myself put a lot of faith not just on the subjective opinion but on the "measured" results which to be fair seem to be top notch.

Not every magazine unfortunately carry out measured tests

To be clear I am open minded , my comments in no way support the OPPO I have a couple of other BD players on my shortlist but like a lot I am in limbo waiting for as yet unpublished reviews and Award magazines

Hi British! ;)

For the ones that learned a bit of Dutch during soccer matches:

http://www.kalibravo.nl/RunScript.asp?page=29&article_id=27&ar3=ar3&ap=NewsArticleDetail3.asp&p=ASP~Pg29.asp

The sentence: "Waarschijnlijk is de kleine wijziging in het typenummer gedaan om grijsimport tegen te gaan." means: "Probably the small change in the type-number is applied to be able to detect parallel-import".

Have fun

Incidentally, while we wait for news of Oppo's pricing and availability, we're taking the chance to compare it with some of its brand-new contemporaries that are also in the Awards-judging pot.

What's clear when reviewing all these products is just how far Blu-ray players have progressed in a year. Many of 2008's star products are matched or even outclassed by newcomers in the price-category below. Great news for consumers yet to make the move to Blu-ray, or looking to upgrade for less

Yep, the Awards issue - with subscribers from 17th October; in shops by 20th October - will carry reviews of anything we haven't yet covered, plus (of course) our favourite Blu-ray players at each price-point.

You'll be able to read some reviews online before that, too.

Is it true that the early September release date has now been moved back to early October? If so I guess it could be even longer before reviews are published - very frustrating given I currently have no player at all (dvd, blu-ray or even just CD!) and don't know whether I should be waiting or not :( hey ho not much to be done but try and bide time I guess.......

Oppo's pricing and availability,

All the hype over the oppo 83 was for good reason ...What you get for your money....More than just a blu-ray player. One of the main reasons for so many owners to make it known and still do! .

We have had no information to that effect, but of course were it to be true, and the website launch and definite pricing to be delayed until that date, that would certainly delay our review, and possibly make the player too late for Awards consideration.

I remember asking on here quite some time ago now about recommendations for a combined movie and SACD player, and it was you Andrew who pointed me at the Oppo as one I should consider.

Well, I'm still looking, so keenly await your review.

If I tell you I am currently listening to the Grieg Piano Concerto - the excellent new 2L SACD/CD/Blu-ray recording - on the Oppo, would that give you some kind of clue, kaotician?

You teaser! I think WHF love this thread, after all the more hits - the more worthwhile having staff allocated to a web presence.

Andrew Everard:Moved on to Tchaikovsky 6 on Blu-ray now...

I haven't seen that movie - do you need to have watched the first 5 films to be able to follow the plot?

Funny how Classical seems to lead the way for hi-fidelity audio!

I take it from Andrew's post that we're starting to see HD audio releases on BluRay? Is this a step on from standard SACD? The only shame of it, whether I've got that bit right or not, is that it seems to be just Classical and Jazz that have a hi-def audio audience. I really really hope we see some fantastic enveloping multi channel audio hi-def releases from the pop and rock world.

Andrew, what are you running the Oppo with, during your Tchaikovsky listening session?
