I initially purchased a Samsung BDP 3600 which, along with a number of other users it seems, developed problems and has now been refunded. Shopping around for what to buy as a replacement I am considering a Pioneer BDP320 as these seem a good quality per pound option but then lo!! the Oppo thread appears and now I fear I may have to wait a little while and consider spending a little extra to secure this 'light-bringing' box of probable joy....

I know from looking at the Oppo BDP 83 stuff that you get an hdmi cable packaged with the machine but after trawling this entire thread I can't help wondering whether this machine doesn't infact warrant purchase of one of those super-Hdmi cables that can cure cancer etc (I forget the link but it has been on Amazon and discussed hereabouts previously.....)

Whaddya think? Bite bullet on pioneer or hang around and see what the noise is about with the Oppo?

I think there should be much less noise apparent, especially if you buy a super-duper HDMI.

(see the subsription thread, for a super-duper bargain on super-duper HDMI).

The HDMI cable in the box, works exactly as well as my Chord Silver Plus HDMI cable. Which must have been an earth shattering surprise to me you might think. Errr, not really. It's just a good HDMI cable.

I'd buy the Oppo over the Pioneer. I did in fact. As I replaced a Pioneer BDP-51FD. Adding SACD and DVD-A and multi-region have been an amazing eye opener. I just love multichannel music. It's incredible. Why don't all disc spinners play all formats?

Really? You've been keeping that a bit quiet...

If you can hang on, I would - it's the season of many new Blu-ray players, Oppo included, so you'll see several key reviews over the next few weeks,

I'm just a happy camper with my Oppo.

Interesting to see how the competition fair. Any news on that review? Are we waiting for next months edition for the Oppo to get published?

Sorry to plug it again. I know, I know, I keep going on about it.

The initial hands-on blog is written and ready to go just as soon as we get confirmation of pricing and distribution.

The review missed the November issue - hardly surprising, given that the magazine's out in two weeks - so is likely to be in the Awards issue First Tests section.

Looking forward to reading your blog on the 831 Andrew. Is it likley to go online this week? Have Oppo give you a timescale of when they will get back to you?

'As soon as we know' is the most concrete answer I've had so far...

When we first brought this player up for a mention, and you guys at WHF towers said you'd received your BDP-831 from Oppo, I for one got rather excited that some editorial might pour forth in due course.

Now, you've held firm in the view that you wouldn't review the US version as it wouldn't be or wasn't officially available in the UK. The 831 being the British version soon to launch, that's naturally no longer a concern. There may be some last minute pricing to be worked out, but that shouldn't prevent a report on how well it performs.

After quite a few weeks and still no word, is everything ok? What are you waiting for? We're still a couple of issues away from the awards issue and still no review. No first test, no blog. Nadda. Nothing. Just wondered why?

Is there a launch date from Oppo? How have you found the machine? Lots of hints from Clare that people might be wise to hang on before making a purchase to allow the official launch to take place but what's the news? When will it be?

Looking forward to hearing from WHF soon, I hope!

As I have already said, we have it, we have done some testing, we are awaiting official confirmation of pricing and distribution.

But thanks, as ever, for your advice...

When every single one of our reviews is based on performance-per-pound criteria, releasing a verdict before a price has been finalised could be misleading.

As also mentioned many, many pages back on this thread, we want to ensure it's a product that's available to buy (or at least pre-order) before we run a review.

So, come on Oppo, give us the info!

Haven't given any advice. Just asked a question.

If I may ask again, any idea when they will release a price, so you can release your review? Is there a blog coming? Is there ANYTHING at all coming before you hear from Oppo or are you just not going to say a word about whether you've loved it, hated it, found it good, bad or ugly until you know what Oppo will charge for it?

Not giving you advice, wouldn't presume to do so, just can't understand at all why, if you've had it for over a month, you won't say anything about it. Why does it matter so much what it's going to cost? Can it's performance not be described in isolation to it's price?

Andrew I'm right in thinking you've been reviewing it and you've said before that you've written a blog entry for it, will this be held back indefinitely? Any chance we'll get a bit of a look at it in the near future. If it's written, then why the wait?

Fair enough, but any word on when Oppo will release you from your shackles and give you a price?

I refer the honorable, if somewhat hectoring, gentleman to my previous answers. And to this thread.

I'm most certainly a Harris and not a Hector :) So I could be Harrassing, but never Hectoring.

No worries guys, just wouldn't want you to forget about it. Like that's likely ;-)
