Brilliant. Can't wait to hear how you get on with it and installing that software. Could this be the streaming nirvana?

That's the bit that put me off, it is rather pricey for a closed box, sealed-in-drive machine. But this new software may change all that ........

Yup. So, things to test:

Composite video out (I'm plugging it into an SD TV)
Adding Apple apps (eg Firefox and, crucially, Spotify)
External HDD streaming support
VOB file video playback

They're my top four, anything else for the list?

Have you got a NAS to test streaming media to Apple TV - would be interested in how that works. Also dragging and dropping stuff into it without iTunes (iTunes is a music only realm for me really).

Well I have a network drive, not a NAS with an OS running iTunes server or suchlike. Which handily has VOB-file movies on it (for research purposes).

Oh right gotcha. I mean apple OSX versions of apps, whoever makes them (as in you can only run apple versions of apps on an @TV with this dongle thingie, as opposed to windows apps - so I need the OSX versions of Firefox and Spotify).

A mwa ha h....ahem.

Anyway, it's set up, on the network, and plugged into the HD telly in the kitchen via component. My iMac can't see it immediately (to pair iTunes to) and neither can my Macbook, but it says to wait a while for computers to find it and I'm competing with the boys playing video games. Oh, and I've bought ATVFlash.

Further bulletins as events warrant - pictures at eleven...
