JohnDuncan:Cool. I think if you bought new wireless hardware to replace the O2 modem/router, you'd be able to get a setup that works properly, but glad you got it fixed for the time being. Hope also it sounds as good as mine does

It doesn't sound too bad let's put it that way.

Mega thanks to Prof'hat and yourself for your tech support service!!

Right now, I don't think I'll go and buy some new kit just for the sake of going all wireless.

I also did look into the Apple TV option but deemed it too expensive for you get. In terms of storage available it's just not enough. At £260 for 500GB, maybe. But not with only 160GB inside the box.

I do have one more question though, but I'll just start another thread...

JohnDuncan:Will Harris:Apple TV is another option, but this isn't a streamer

yes it is

Will look again then! Thanks.

But have to say I agree with the last post. It needs a re-vamp and more storage.

daveh75:Plenty of hack's available out there to make it the product it should have been in the first place.

What sort of hacks? And how?

"Waking up" the usb drive to enable use of external HDD,and use of keyboard/mouse,Playback of non-apple/itunes media,Direct streaming fron a NAS(no need for pc/mac to be running)etc, and are mostly free,If you google "atv hacks" you'll find plenty of others.

In fact have a look at http://www.atvflash.com/product_info.php?products_id=27 , it packages most of them into a single solution although not free.

Wowowowwow. That is so awesome!! I can only agree with John. Now, if they bring out a new one with a bigger hard disk I'll buy one and add this software. What a legendary improvement. The interface is the nicest TV GUI I've seen yet. With this added functionality that does turn it into something quite special! Why is there always a limitation though in using a FAT32 usb external HD? Is it so hard to get NTFS working? Shame to be limited to 2Gb or 4Gb external drives.

You can easily get FAT32 partitions bigger than 32 GB using Swissknife so that gets round that issue. I'm sorely tempted by this myself now!

There is actually an instructional video on the atv flash site that tell's you how to set up an external hdd(about halfway in,to save watching it all) and they use a 750gb drive for the record.

Yeah, OSX just doesn't work with NTFS (a windows file system, after all). But you're only limited to 4gig files with FAT32, not drive sizes, which is not an issue with DVD VOBs, for example (usually much smaller than that).

I am seriously inclined just to go and buy an @TV for experimentation purposes, I think it could be the perfect meejah hub (inability to handle VOBs put me off historically).

Well my wife is away for three days from tomorrow, and it would be setting a disturbing precedent for there not to be something new when she gets back (and the NaimUniti has a waiting list, I checked).
