I got it last week and ever since it was turned on i have noticed a slight flicker to high contrast areas such as skies or the background on the sky guide. I dont see it watching colourful images. Its not a motion judder, a definite flicker/shimmer. Other people have said that they do flicker, and see nas i used to have LCD, i will notice it?? Is this right? Seems a bit weird that i would see flicker when i've just spent £1500??

I may be wrong but I think this may be to do with Intelligent Frame Creation being turned on.

I'd have an experiment with it - try it on and off. I think you access IFC through Menu --> Settings --> IFC. If you have any other picture processing modes turned on I would turn these off too.

Let us know how you get on.

All IFC and processing is off. Like i said, it is only in high contrast areas, such as bright white, and it is more apparent when the image is static as opposed to moving. Its very much like an old CRT tv.

As blunny said. Turn off ALL the "processing" modes such as 'contrast enhance', 'DNR' etc

Set up your tvs brightness and contrast using a THX disc and it should look far better

Right, just spoke to Panasonic re my flicker issue. They basically said that this is a limitation of plasma technology. In other words, it is normal for it to do this. I feel a little fed up, 600hz technology, smooth motion etc and it flickers. The man in the shop never told me that!!!

LCDs may have motion blur, but the long persistence that causes it makes them flicker free. The problem is that all other types tend to look flickery by comparison but you should stop noticing it after a while.

Do you think i will? If so, no problems because the set is fantastic.

What theyve told you there is wrong

Plasmas are not limited to 'flicker' Theyve clearly not made the tv to work as it should.

Im saying that if Panasonic are to be believed ~ it DOES flicker and its been designed that way. But Panasonic are trying to blame the fault on the limitations of plasma technology rather than their own poor research and development methods

I notice flicker on mine (LG) after being on the computer for a while, but then I stop noticing it. Perhaps you could take a DVD into a shop and see if their plasmas flicker. It's a common complaint about plasmas if the internet is anything to go by.

er,supposed to flicker????? dont think so!!!

I have a Panasonic PZ85 and it certainly does not flicker, a frien of mine has just bought the new HD ready 42 inch panasonic (cant remember the model no) and that does not flicker.

Are you able to return the set and swap for a new one??

Possibly but the people from the shop came out to it and couldn't see it either which suggests its my eyes, coming from LCD perhaps. When i say flicker, i meean like the old refresh rate on a CRT or minitor a bit, not flashing on and off flicker.

I own 3 Plasmas dating back to a Panasonic series5 and non of these flicker, nor does my Inlaws or either of my 2 Brother-in-laws. IMHO it is either a duff set or a fault wilth this perticular model, I would find the same model TV as your in a local shop and compare.

So the people that say they can't see it, have you always had plasma? Is it due to me switching from an LCD. It just seems very confusing because a lot of people say that it shouldn't happen , but then some say it should??

I use a Plasma as my main display and in 2 other rooms, but the Kids games room and bedrooms are all fitted with LCDs so am very used to both. IMHO it should not flicker and if it were mine I would not except it and demand a replacement set.

All televisions will flicker, it's how TV works. It all depends on whether the flicker is perceived by you or not. LCD is better if flickering disturbs you.

Hate to say it, but if people you know and trust are saying they can't see the flicker, it could just be you're overly sensitive to the refresh rate. Hasn't that model got some crazy 600Hz specification?

Also, more importantly, did you notice it when you were watching in the shop?

I never saw the V10 in the shop just an X10 and that didn't do it. Oh and i tried my 360 on a G10 and didn't notice it either. If its my perception, then i will hopefully adjust to it??

Nope, CRT (bedroom) then LCD (son now has) then Plasma (main set), so constantly swapping between the sets. Never seen ANY flicker / refresh problems etc.

Where did you buy it from?

As suggested find a DISPLAY MODEL and have a look. If I was you I would be looking at another set.

A replacement V10, or a new set altogether? I love the V10. The picture is astonishing compared to LCD IMHO

Perhaps i am overly sensitive to it coming from LCD. I just read another review and he mentioned that it suffered from dithering, as do all plasmas. It sounds like that is what i am seeing.

If it's what I think you are describing then there was a problem with quite a few Panny plasmas last year, mainly concerning TH42PZ80 and 85 but also with a few others. There is a very long thread on another forum delving deeper in this problem. I have the problem on my 42PX80 and according to Panasonic, who I phoned up, there is a firmware upgrade to help with the problem but this has to be done by one of there approved engineers. I'm just waiting for a convenient time to send mine away for the upgrade.

It's very annoying and once you've seen it you're constantly looking out for it. As you said, it's mainly high contrast areas like bright cloudy skies and also seems to effect skin tones too. Watch BBC News 24 and it will drive you mad, seems to be the worst channel for seeing it on for some reason.
