First hi-fi system

Hi,

I'm thinking about getting my first hi-fi system (incl, speakers) and I would like to get some tips bout which brands are the best ones and know a little bit more about the technical stuff. My idea is to nuy a mid-upper range system and the music, that will mostly be played, is jazz and funk.

Any ideas?

We could be talking a £200 micro system with £100 Tannoys, or anything up to a Krell-based monster pushing 6 figures...

In addition to a budget to work with, it'd be good to know what you were after. Is this for home cinema or stereo use? Do you just want a CD playing system, or are other components needed too? What size/shape of room is this system to be used in? Do you want to party or listen to background music whilst reading?

So presumably you're looking at spending £1000-plus per component? If this is a first system, I suggest that you would be well-advised to find a reliable dealer. If you tell us where you live (roughly), maybe someone can recommend you a friendly shop that will look after you.
