Hi folks

Am seriously tempted to order a pair of these before the VAT rise, I would have liked to have had a better look at them really and the pics on their web site are fairly woefull (along with web site as a whole really) Hope the speakers are better than the advertising!!

Have tried googling them without much luck.

Anyway I know its a big ask but could any of you proud owners possibly post any decent pics of your eb1s? or point me in the right direction to some that are already on the internet somewhere?

Thanks, Bill

There have been some good EB1 pics in the magazine at least a couple of times during the year.

Can't tell you which issues as I pass my copies to a friend when I finish with them.

Edit... Just did a forum search and you will find EB1s featured in the regular 'System Builder' bit in the November 2010 issue with some good photos.

Thanks Chebby, sadly (for me) I'm just getting back into reading the mag and missed the November issue - story of my life really! Mind you, Ive worn December and January issues out - The wife has started checking what these pictures I keep drooling over are, not sure if the fact they are little metal / wood / plastic boxes and not women, has reassured her or not!

Hi Bill

I've had my Eb1's for some time now, I don't have much experience of other kit but these sound lovely to my ears. i'm away at the moment but i'll try and post some pictures when i get back next week . The only thing i would add is that there is apparently quite a wait for the speakers to arrive, (there are many discussions on this forum about this) but to my mind they are well worth it. also if you phone EB they are very helpful and informative.

Bill ,

I wouldn't be in great rush to buy a pair of EB1s purely to avoid the increase in VAT . The rise of 2.5% means that you will have to pay an extra £2.50 for every £100.00 you spend (sorry to sound like I'm stating the bleeding obvious), so you will be paying an extra £12-13 for them after January 4th . Not a very large sum . In any case , if you order them now you won't be getting them for 2 , or 3 , or even 4 months so if your credit card is only charged just before they are sent out you won't avoid the increase after all .

So what I am saying , is take your time because , in my view, the increase in VAT is not much of an issue ,

Nick

Hi Nick

Realised that sounded a bit lame as soon as I posted it, I actually work in accounts so no excuses!

What I really had in mind was that I am hoping to get our room redecorated etc and get some kit installed by summer time, judging by comments on other threads re: the EB1s I need to get them on order soon - If they are as good as reviews suggest then I dont mind a wait though.

Thanks for the photos DIB, I could have ordered a pair, though the price was a bit high for me and the rest of my system. I was waiting for Arcaydis DM1. I understand the wait, but I couldn't stand it and I have ordered other brand: Tannoy Mercury V 1. Maybe in the future!.

I really appreciate the possibility of seeing EB 1's photos. Health for the New Year!!!.

Not as nice looking a finish as I thought they'd have.

They're better than I expected due to the rolled-off edges and corners. Reminds me of the Spendor SA1 finish in that respect. I've never found black ash to look good at the best of times but it's down to taste.

Yes I suppose i've been a bit spoilt in that respect...

Also my old Maple finished Rega R3s looked excellent.

You are probably right about the taste thing. Maybe it's just me and black/black painted speakers.

I agree with the OP about the photos on the EB website though. They need to get some better ones up there.

Yes, but seeing as they're not short of orders, why bother.

I have a soft spot for the Naim n-Sats, very nice speakers. Problem is, I buy speakers but struggle (terribly) to sell them. I break into a light sweat when I think of selling the SA1s to someone that will clearly just throw them about.

+1

Finish looks decent enough for the price.

Hmm, black ash, black plastic, black rubber, silver vinyl, overtightened exposed hex bolts. All the materials needed to get an award in WHAT HI FI. I have not heard them but would hope in this case the attention to detail has been placed on the sonic abilities.

Except they didn't, you'll notice.

I found them beautifully finished in the flesh, tbh...
