Hi all

Hope this is OK to post in here.

I'm getting a Wiim Ultra (currently have a Pro Plus) as I want to start using Headphones for night listening and also it has a USB input for my External SSD (music collection).

Question I have is.... What headphones would you guys recommend (wired preferably as most of my music is Hi-Res) that will match with the output of the Wiim Ultra for a good full sound (including a nice bass)? The cable needs to be about 3 metres or at least be able to have a longer cable fitted (if that makes sense) 🙂

Many thanks for any advice you can give.

Inch.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I read that topic earlier this morning but ideally looking for some more suggestions for headphone options, open back, closed back etc and impedance issues etc (I'm not very technical).

I've used (120 ohm) Sennheiser HD-560S with the Ultra.
You should really try headphones for yourself (preferably with the Ultra) as sound and comfort vary significantly.

(For instance, I like the neutral sound from the 560S. Bass from them has quality - it's not overblown, but natural....though that may not be 'full' enough for you).

Thanks so much, that's very useful information - I may well just order half a dozen sets and see how they fair against each other. Cable length is key though as I'm laying in my bed I don't wanna be strangled if the cable is too short 🙂
I don't listen to dance music or the like, but I do like to hear a nice bass sound and feel like - first slider on the EQ for me is usually right near the top, and the 2nd one about 2 or 3 notches below that haha! Told you I wasn't technical!!

Thanks again.

One thing to add, make damn sure they are comfortable and, stay comfortable when wearing for a long time. It doesn’t matter how nice headphones sound, if they are uncomfortable, you won’t want to listen to them.

I know this may seem rather obvious but, some people seem to overlook it, thinking it will be ok when they get used to them, It won’t be…

Also, Sennheiser, among others, ships (some of?) theirs with replaceable cables, so that can give you flexibility. My two open-back HD598s are discontinued, but there are others. I have a shorter cable for portable use, along with the stock one. Fortunately, the connections are standard/not proprietary, so Sennheiser is not the only supplier. Also, as Gray noted, there are extension connectors and cables that would allow you to use them down the street, and which would work with most any headphone you like. Finally, there are coiled cables that also give you a different degree or kind of extension. My classic-forever closed-back Sony 7506 is one such option. While its cable is not replaceable, I did cable-extend it many years ago for a season or two or more.

P.S.: Are you confident that the Wiim Ultra is what you'll require/prefer for your intended USB/SSD digital collection use -and beyond??

Good luck with and enjoy your planning.
