Lets talk about streamers for Dummies Jason .

What makes your streamer better than my Marantz HEOS PM7000 or Stereo 70 ?
Because my stuff are much better than yours and your pants are on fire!😂😂

Seriously Shrek, how am I supposed to answer that?
What matters, you're happy with the music from your Marantz, likewise, I'm happy with my Matrix and Primare.

I used to listen to JazzFM and in fact, I won one of their Christmas competitions many years ago.

There were lots of goodies, some Gin and a signed Jeff Goldblum album from when he performed there. But the main prize were the middle seats of the front row for Gregory Porter at the Royal Albert Hall. An excellent evening, made a weekend of it and stayed at the Union Jack Club for a few nights being ex-military. Mrs Crafty, being Polish had not been to London before, so we did a lot of sight seeing as well.

I stopped listening to JazzFM when I discovered Jazz24, which I prefer now. No adverts and very little in the way of DJs, plus most of the tracks are just music.

Thanks for your suggestion, but I find the iPhone very good for streaming. I can use as a remote control the Linn Selekt DSM to listen to Jazz24 and Qobuz at home, listen to Qobuz and Jazz24 in the car and cast to the Amazon Echo additionally.

I try and use the iPhone for most things where I can, saves doubling up on other pieces of kit.
Very nice.
When my wife gets back from Hungary, hoping to go to Ronnie Scotts for some serious jazz or blues 💙 🙂

Very nice also, mind you haven’t been there for years.

When I lived in High Wycombe in the 80/90s we used to go up to the 100 Club in Oxford Street every Monday night. We didn’t know who would be on, just went up there for the music and parking was easier then.

Before we moved to Wroclaw , we lived near Milton Keynes and used to go to Stables in Wavendon a number of times per year. In fact my first car was an old Mini Clubman Estate, that used to belong to Johnny Dankworth.

Now in Wroclaw, we have found a very nice Jazz club, The Vertigo Jazz Club and Restaurant and, have been there a few times.

Nice looking streamer from Mission, congratulations on your purchase.
What's the software like?

Simple and stable. In terms of UI, it utilises Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect and Spotify Connect, and so most of the time is spent browsing within the appropriate app - a good thing in my view, since each of those apps is superior to any of the apps unique to the various streaming systems (and I've used BluOS, WiiM, HEOS, MusicCast, DTS PlayFi...)

The 778S app is used to select which service you wish to use, and that includes internet radio as well as the streaming apps, as well as inputs from PC and local storage. The software also provides access to the filter settings and oversampling feature, but I've not got heavily involved with that, because the DAC implementation sounds great out of the box, and I don't feel the need to get stuck down rabbit holes.

Well my main question is - if you are using an external DAC, does the streamer make any difference? Or is all the "magic" done by the DAC - provided the data gets to it fully (something something)?

I use a Wiim Pro Plus as well and find the sound on its own decidedly average. I hooked it up to the Cambridge 200M DAC and it's a clear improvement.

It's not just down to the DAC, there's analogue stages, power supplies (although neither are much to write home about with wall wart plugs), but the dedicated Cambridge DAC makes the difference here.

The Wiim interface is excellent, likewise its connectivity to a whole bunch on streaming and Internet radio services, but audio-wise? If I hadn't had the 200M DAC, the Wiim would've gone ages ago.
