I might get thrown out if I ask all this!

i don’t think the case is badly made. My ones are fine. The units don’t look like they are a luxurious finish for the high price ones, which is a fair criticism, as you could have a 6dac or a mono x300 and the price is 3 times as much but same case. But they are good enough and it goes back to the point about sound quality I’d say.

I don’t think any manufacturer would visit a customer at home to sort that out, they would probably leave it to the dealer. The leds are annoying. One thing they fall down on is the functionality of the units, it’s not great and their customer service is terrible but they leave it to dealers. But for all that they are fantastic sounding, especially top CD players and signature amps.

I wouldn’t expect them to visit my home, but I equally wouldn’t expect them to blame my home! Anyway, that was five or six years ago. Muchos water has passed under the bridge since then.

You could have fooled me ...

Greetings fanboys. From another world I come!

A little bit pathetic Vladimir.

The OP announced a group for Cyrus users and you turn this into a brand bashing proclaiming you are an electronics expert :)

Each to their own.

The same thing happened to me with pmc Gray. As I’ve said before, they (Tom Barron) delivered new speakers to my home address after the dealer delivered ones I picked up had been dropped and dented.

Pmc Service is night and day to cyrus and they seem to care about the relationship more to the end user, even though the contract for sale is with the dealer. Cyrus don’t really care in that respect.

Yep, me too. Tom came to collect some defective Bryston mono blocks from my house personally, and then dropped them back off a week later. Great customer service, but a lot of problems with PMC and Bryston kit it would appear!

Through my dealer, and further to their insinuation, I did offer to cover all of Cyrus’s expenses if they came to my home and actually found a fault with my electrics. They declined the offer. Silence which spoke volumes. FWIW the fault was buzzing transformers on the first two sets. The third pair worked for a little while, the lights went orange and then they died.

The Cyrus sound I did like very much for a while, but my tastes have changed and I am no longer a fan at all. I can however see the attraction because their kit is revealing and dynamic, which ticks a lot of hifi boxes. As for the shoe-box form factor I really like it. When I had a full Cyrus setup of 6 boxes I just loved the way it all sat on my rack, looking purposeful. From a distance of course, ‘cos if I got too close I could see all those differences in the Quartz Silver finish, the LED dysfunctionality and the generally bad, patchy coating of the casework. *sad*

Don't think Cyrus are very big in the Balkans, although could be wrong. Wonder if Vlad has ever dem'd any Cyrus gear?

Personally think the casing is adequate, but with the right speakers they sound fine.

yes he could possibly be going off the opinions of people on here, which isn’t too good on balance unfortunately.

Maybe just choice of words pp, but the signature x300 monoblock power amps and top balanced signature pre dac with power supply, around £10k worth, is more than fine. It’s an awesome combo, but agree, with the right speakers. It’s a total different kettle of fish to a 6dac, 8dac around £1k or £2k, or even something like a pre dac and stereo 200, about £4K.

Impeccable case work on mine. Solid as a rock, literally.

Inside build quality very good, with quality boards, transformers and part generally. The main electrolytes are cheaper ones but they seem to do the job well. Many brands could be accused of that, some far more expensive.

The only failing I had was with a capacitor to the transport of a CD player. It leaked. Replaced it myself for a few pence and changed the laser assembly at the same time.

Appreciate that Cyrus probably would have charged their standard one-off repair rate of £250 which is not great but they do a full check, replace any parts which may compromise performance down the line, clean it, re-package with new box and give a warranty. - This may not be to attractive for older Cyrus products but is totally acceptable for the more expensive stuff. - It's that or choose some other repairer with perhaps unknown consequences.

Fully understand though ... once bitten ... . I'd probably be the same. Luckily I have been lucky and the one time I needed a part (volume control knob) Cyrus was helpful and quick.

Part apology to Vladimir, the thread about the cyrus group is a different one.

I'd be interested to know their plans for the Cyrus One "Series" (see that moniker used on their website). The series seems to just have the (ahem) "One" component so far. I've not heard it, but it does look like a smart bit of kit for the money and I'd like to hear the actual effect of its speaker impedance matching system, that is an interesting feature. I much prefer the design to the standard Cyrus range which to me doesn't look retro in a good way: but in a mid 1980's Ford Escort sort of way.

But what about a matching DAC or streamer in the pipeline? Just to know they are actually R&D'ing other components would be nice to know, even if they can't spill the beans about what they are precisely.

Just putting aside their respective house sounds for a moment, it's interesting to compare the R&D in recent years of the likes of Cyrus, Audiolab and Roksan, all of whom have their sound devotees (including me - I love Roksan's house sound), compared with the likes of Naim which has really been aware of the changing trends in the way people access music. Naim's sound doesn't really match my speakers, but I admire their development of the brand; creating the halo product in the Statement and then trickling down some of the processes learned and brand appearance to new models lower down the range; with the Naim Muso adopting the same control and software for example.

In comparison some manufacturers seem to be a little stagnant. But they may all be about to prove me wrong by bringing a whole raft of products they've been working on.

Agree. Not much happening from Cyrus.

Their latest portable dac relied on crowd funding ...

As to the new look, much cheaper folded thin steel case (empty buiscuit tin ... WHS&V)and a shiney plastic front. I do like the oversized knobs.

Of the Cyrus x200/amps/pre with ATC at Frank Harvey.

While I'd agree on the exciting dynamic delivery, it soon after 5 mins exposed a very edgey trebble performance.

Maybe they ok.with less revealing speakers but not atcs

It sounds like brand bashing to a fanboy. All I see is piss poor job of sand casting. Why wouldn't you address it to the manufacturer?

The demo today was pretty decent at audio t Southampton. Alan and John there are very nice relaxed people, not your normal hard sellers. They had my speakers set up with the full signature set up (dac xp signature with psx-r2 and mono x300 signatures) and they flicked between this and the stereo 200 and pre Dac. They had been demoing some older amps earlier in the morning before I got there. Also had the CDi CD player. Their rep was David Morato, head of r and d, a nice Spanish guy.

I didn’t get time to check the system out with different speakers as people were coming and going and they wanted to keep the demo set, a shame as the shop had some nice 25-26s and some Wilson benesch speakers, not sure which.

Playing some of my CDs the obvious extra dynamics were obvious - the only difference to my system the PSx-r was version 2, and mono x300 signatures, not my x200 signatures.

Overall the signature system was a nice balance, just the right amounts of treble for cymbals etc, decent levels, but the rest of the midrange very balanced too. The class d stereo 200 with the pmc twenty5 23s was not a good combo for me, with a vocal track being played with way to much airy treble if I could put it that way. It was verging on being bright. I didn’t like it but others did.

David talked about the fact they do have a new item for the one range, and are developing something totally new to fit into the ‘shoebox range’ but he obviously couldn’t say what these were. He also discussed the fact cyrus are considering a case redesign, but he couldn’t say when it would happen, but I hope it doesn’t affect current customers in being able to upgrade to a point.

the leds were brought up interestingly. Apparently they can’t get leds of same brightness quality such that they have to use resistors to get brightness the same. If I’m honest I found the explanation a bit odd, as surely if you line up other brands players and amps they get standby leds of the same brightness.

coming back home the power amps I have are still seriously good in the scheme of things relative to the higher power amp offering in the range, so I’m more than happy to stay with the status quo. But I am upgrading my psx-r to the latest version.

Status Quo use PMC and Bryston. I know this because I bought Francis Rossi’s IB2S’s off him in 2014. Most enjoyable eBay pickup ever that was! Completely off topic. Sorry...

No worries. Did you stop for coffee or to chat about hi Fi etc Gazzip? In my old job I used to meet some interesting media people now and then. Met Martin brundles brother at Lola cars, Gordon Ramsey at one of his restaurants, and Ray Winstone too. Also creepingly i had to meet Ian Huntley at Soham College before the murders. Creeped me out knowing what happened after.

Alas Mr Rossi was in Berlin touring at the time, but his wife did make me a brew and his son helped me carry the speakers from their recording studio at the bottom of his garden. Funnily enough I had a brew with Ray Winston about a month ago! He had been filming a movie about the Hatton Garden diamond robbery and he happened to be at one of my client’s houses waiting for a taxi. A very nice guy!
