Twice now I've damaged and broken my stylus (2m blue) replacing the wee dust cover the next one is getting dropped in the bin. Anyone else done this or is it just me being clumsy.

Are there any tougher stylus out there I don't remember my set up from the 80's being like this,I used to clean it with my finger if I done this to the modern ones they would disintegrate lol

Don't bother with the dust cover . I've never put mine on from the day I got my at ptg....it's just too easy to damage the stylus.just clean the stylus regularly with the little brush provided.keep the turntable dust cover closed and this should minimise any dust entering the space.

Once is unlucky, twice is careless *biggrin*

When you say that you've broken it what do mean exactly... sheared the stylus off the cantilever, or just rotated the cantilever in its mount? If you can upload a photo that would be good.

Same as Mark, I don't use a stylus dust cover.

It's not a dustcover, if you mean the little plastic guard over the stylus. It's to stop it getting bumped in transit, or on removal from the box. Leave it off!

If you fear you'll lose it, then sellotape it to the back if the plinth.

+1

It's a stylus guard and its there to do just that. It should be removed once turntable in place and set-up.

I have a clearaudio Virtuoso cart (quite expensive) within a few weeks I'd twisted the cantilever. Within a few months it was knackered, from accidents and failed attempts to fix it.

Fortunately for me, the Audio technica ATN95e and ex stylus can be used as cheap replacements, with a bit of butchery on the plastic body.

Im already on my 3rd stylus..

but at around 20-25 quid, are a lot more affordable than the 2m Blue.
