Hi

I would like to replace my ancient Eagle amplifier with a more powerful, around 50W per channel, amp with a remote but I would also like a mono switch and a phono stage because I play a lot of old 45s. Any ideas chaps?

Jim.

Why do you need a mono switch?

Surely if you buy an amp with a phono stage or a phono amp and amp then connect your turntable up you'll get mono sound from both speakers. I've never played 45s on my RP3 but i presume if i did i'd get mono sound from both speakers or am i missing something?

mono? wouldn't that make the whole idea of soundstaging pointless?

The 1979-1982 JVC AX-5, a superb 70watts per channel integrated amp, had a magnificent phono stage (no make that two magnificent phono stages!) and a mono switch. Sound quality is brilliant and they're reliable as anything today - yours for £70 on Ebay as a minter.

Lost Angeles:According to WH(S&V) mag PM6002 does not have a phono stage but he PM4001 & 7001 do. So if darkside82 is right then mags wrong probabably a misprint, it has one in the whf ultimo guide
