God this thing is so powerful, its just hugely enjoyable even with just my Sonos. I have all those rich strings back vocals have come forward. Bass is mega but tight, its like every single sound is in the correct position and order not afecting each other. The result is adictive music, I just want to keep listening. Its far far better than the Sugden, the Audio Analouge was OK but it didn't hold me spellbound, this thing makes me smile.

It's a great feeling when you find the SQ you've been looking for... I came to that point when I changed from the Masterclass to the Accuphase.

So glad you're back to enjoying the music.

Is that thing running in class A a few watts?

Why is it 'only' rated at 80w/8ohm? Huge transformer, lots of capacitance and lots of output devices ...

The UP version runs a high % in class A and does get warm though no where near as hot as the Sugden A21SE. Radiorog due to house rules my website address has been removed, it's pretty easy to work out though just use my name!

I am intrigued. Is it heavily biased or running in Class A and if so, how many of its watts?

Just curious.

Taken from the website

The V20 UP is a redesign of the V20 Integrated Amplifier. Doubling of electrolytes in power supply(Noticeable sonic improvement). Changing the emitter resistor card for higher class A operation and greater linjeritet. New improved display, light blue background with dark blue lettering, significantly better readability. New "Upgrade" sign on the top lid. New remote control receiver(significantly better reception). Improved user software. V20 can be upgraded to V20 UP.

I think the linjeritet makes the difference!

They fattened up the PSU and resistors to bias the amp higher than standard. Nothing magic about it. Good old overengineering.

Well both Abrahamsen amps arrived today, the V2.0 and an Upgrade version. Well in the context of I'm used to 2.5K amps the V2.0 UP is still very special. If i had just bought the normal version i think I would of been disapointed and certainly could not of sung its praises, i guess it would compete very well with amps up to £1.5K but it loses out on bass control and quality compared with the UP and in turn feels a little ponderous. The std V2.0 does not operate so far in class A as the Up. The imaging, mids and treble were all very good but it misses that somthing special the UP has. The £150 extra for the UP makes complete sence and money very well spent.

As I said above in context. The Up version is very special. I'm sure the v2.0 would hold its own with £1-1.5k.

100,000uF of capacitance

1000VA Noratel transformer

12 output devices

16A relays

Finger thick metal oxide resistors

Dual mono

High current, fast slew rate design

Balanced XLRs with digital volume control (yet it's not an Accuphase)

Multiple separate board modules (yet it's not an Accuphase)

Made in Norway by Per Abrahamsen

£690 FFS! It's insanity. It makes no sense at all!

Made in Norway and £690. Are we talking about a pint of lager here? 😀

Norwegians pay levels are huge (2nd highest on the planet) so how is this guy managing to build these, sell them for that and make a decent profit?

'Tis a well known fact you can never have too much linjeritet.

Or pickled herrings come to that.

This is my 1st post on any forum (please go easy on me!) but I felt the need to share my Hifi joy of the last few days. I went round to iQ Speakers to demo the Abrahamsen V2.0UP amp. It was running alongside his beautiful iQ speakers built IPL Acoustics M1TLm speakers. From the 1st few bars I was grinning from ear to ear. The sound quality of both the amp & speakers were absolutely amazing. The timing, clarity & openness were truly stunning.

2 hours later I was still grinning like the proverbial Cheshire Cat. I had no intention of getting rid of my beloved Sonus Faber's but was so blown away by the Abrahamsen amp & IPL Speakers, I ended up purchasing both from iQ.

It's not only the sound quality of the amp & speakers which is outstanding it is the build quality as well. I would think you would have to spend at least 4 times the amount these cost to get near to the same level of performance/quality.

What iQ has done with the IPL speakers is taken a premium sounding pair of speakers & given them the luxurious build & finish they deserve.

Coupled with the fantastic chap iQ is, this has been my most pleasurable Hifi experience ever.

I can't recommend highly enough iQ Speakers, the Abrahamsen amp & the speakers. This equipment has got to be heard to be believed & in my opinion is a absolute bargain.

Since setting up my new equipment I can't stop listening to it!

Thank you Zebedee it was a real pleasure and why i started this little project. My first real customer and it was great fun to see Zebedee's face and body language change! He had Exposure Pre and Power amps with Sonus Faber speakers. Any way he was amazed he really has a wonderful system for not much money the only other system that gave him goose pimples was a 30K Krell system. Enjoy Zebedee and thank you for your trust and support. EDIT If we welcome him we may have a new WHF member.

Hi and welcome to the forum Zebedee

thanks for sharing your experience with us... IQ is a top guy who loves his music and has come along way in a short time with regards to HiFi.

I hope to be hearing this combo some time too.

As a matter of interest, which Sonus Faber speakers did you have?
