Would I be wasting my money?

I live in a listed building and hence cannot erect a satellite dish. Neither is the street serviced with digital cabling. Therefore I am restricted to receiving my television through an aerial via a Freeview box.

I have a decent size front room and which could comfortably accommodate a 42 or 46 inch plasma/LCD screen. However, will it be worth it for the quality of the picture that I can get via Freeview? I get decent reception, but will this be enough? Would something like a Topfield PVR with its upscaling capabilities make any significant difference?

I currently have a Sony KV-36HQ100B CRT which is great but its bloody bulky for what is by today’s standards a relatively average/small screen. And the Plasma/LCDs look great. Cost isn’t the real issue (although it obviously matters to an extent). I just need some honest advice. Much appreciated.

I'm sure you've done this and ended up frustrated, but have you explored all the options for siting a dish? ÿThere are specialist solutions out there (worth searching using Google). ÿI had to submit a Listed Building Consent Application, which took about 4 months(!), but it was worth it in the end!

As for TVs - if you're going to be watching a lot of SD, I'd go with one of the Panasonic plasmas. ÿIMHO, you get a more 'watchable' image than LCD with Freeview.ÿ

After looking at alot of plasmas and lcds id stick with CRT for watching SD. Normal TV look sooo rubbish when compared to my Phillips CRT.

Plasma and LCD are only great for HD content and gaming. Normal SD tv looks horrible on them.
