I reckon Amazon must have run out of smaller boxes as my copy of Oneohtrix Point Never's (who?) "Returnal" LP also arrived today in a great big box .

For anyone who does not know (where have you been, living there) Pink Floyd The Dark Side Of The Moon.

There is no dark side of the moon, matter of fact it's all dark. Probably because it's albedo is only 7%.

DIB The Rossington Collins Band came about after the plane crash which killed three members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Allen Collins and Gary Rossington where members of LS and this was a sort of reunion band with Dale Krantz (female) on vocals. The songs are southern LS type material. The pick of the tracks on the album is Tashauna which you may have come across it opens with the line He called himself a freebird they pulled him from the sky. There was a later similar band call The Allen Collins Band.

I continued tonight with two sides ofThe Free Story followed by

I'm currently "testing" selections from three albums my wife has ordered as a Christmas present to herself. (She's out on a Christmas works do!) 1) The World of Miriam Makeba 2) Snowbound - Sarah Vaughan 3) Famous Blue Raincoat - Jennifer Warnes (3x45rpm version). Bar the last album this stuff isn't really my normal listening territory but it's good to stray away from overly familiar music sometimes. The first two are test pressings and sound great. The latter is well-known to many on these boards. Upto now I've only heard the 1987 vinyl version (once owned but lost in a house move many years ago), so it's really interesting to hear it. Personally, in terms of music, I much prefer Mr. Cohen's originals, but these are impressive recordings inspire of the 80's production stylings. Onwards and back on the beaten path: 4) Strangeways Here We Come - The Smiths

SPARKS there's a name from the past Russ & Ron Mael, I have their first two albums but they don't get much play these days.

Jennifer Warnes, good album I prefer her version of First We Take Manhattan and the last track on side one Joan Of Arc.

My evening has continued with the First Cream album (can't find pic of cover we have) with a glass of Aussie Shiraz and 2 squares of Green and Blacks 85% a lovely combination and the darling wife has returned. The Cream album was hers, she obviously has good taste, well until she married me anyway. :shame:

1) Sweet Revenge - John Prine

Every home should have one. (Well, to be honest it should be his debut self-titled album, but this, his third or fourth is interesting indeed). Country but not as we know it.

2) The New Possibilities - John Fahey

The most beautiful Christmas album ever?

3) Monsters Of Folk

Haven't played this for awhile. Some lovely songs, though not quite the sum of it's parts considering the alt.country/folky supergroup constituents.

Last album of the night, good version of the Stones Jumpin' Jack Flash on here. The first track Fig Tree Bay starts with the line "Came to the Island to find peace and tranquility", not much peace and tranquility in the summer in Fig Tree bay these days.

Edit. Sorry about the bold lettering, don't know how i managed that.

Bar a brief detour (my wife's great sounding copy of Jennifer Warnes' Famous Blue Raincoat), it was all The Shins last night. Three brilliant records that are packed full of stunning tunes, incredible lyrics and dexterous playing. The singer's got a great voice and they can all play and arrange their stuff into a wonderful whole.

Oh, Inverted World

Chutes Too Narrow

Wincing The Night Away

(passed on the underwhelming Broken Bells collaboration).

Stevie Ray Vaughan - In Step

One of my favourite blues guitarists. Will be showing my new RP3 some more of him soon!

Thriller sounds great on vinyl, doesn't it?

As for Born To Run on vinyl, I haven't played it in years, but I'm about to dig out an original 70's copy pilfered from my brother's collection to find out. Personally, I've always much preferred the less bombastic Darkness On The Edge Of Town, which sounds truly magnificent on vinyl.

Hi Millerman,

Good luck with Bruce on vinyl.

Once you start they'll be no stopping you. Or is this just my own experience writ large!

Today's listening: (young children on day out with grandparents, so I've blasted loads of stuff today)

1) Me, Myself, I - Joan Armatrading

Biggest, chunkiest pop/rock/ production of hers. Sounds great. Anton Fig on huge sounding drums, two of Bruce's E-Streeters on show, and Joan's sublime soulful, jazzy voice captured so perfectly.

2) A Street Scene - Bark Psychosis

Forgot I had this 10inch red vinyl. Homage to Talk Talk's Laughing Stock or precursor to Tortoise et al or both?

3) Famous Blue Raincoat - Jennifer Warnes

4) The Last Waltz - the side with Bob Dylan and The Band

5) Your Arsenal - Morrissey

6) Slates EP - The Fall

7) Sue - Frazier Chorus
