David Bowie - Let's Dance.

This arrived from e-bayland, this morning. I only bought it for my favourite Bowie track, 'China Girl'. I'm listening to the track right now and it sounds superb, especially the 'baby says.... just you shut your mouth' part.

Theme from Cat People gets my vote as well :)

Good lad. Fantastic album, my fave PF, even allowing for the unfortunate use of the Kop on side one

It's a veritable vinyl fest at the moment. I've well and truly broken last year's vinyl purchasing embargo. So, I'm revelling in the analogue glory of the following tonight:

1) Hot Sauce Committee Part Two - Beastie Boys Not quite Paul's Boutique but superb. Made for vinyl. White vinyl to be exact. Thick, scuzzy grooves. That's the music too.

2) Circuital - MMJ. I can't stop playing this. It's reaching obsessive levels. I go to sleep with it spinning round my brain and wake up with the tunes swirling around my head. Actually playing it is the real deal though. A subtle evolution has taken place in their sound. The main attraction, Jim James' voice and the melodies are still very much in place, just in newer less full tilt southern rock settings.

3) Bob Dylan Live At Brandeis. Tried, unsuccessfully, to buy this on Record Store Day, but eventually got hold if it last week. What an amazing recording both as a historical document and the sound captured in the grooves really conveys something of what it might have been like to actually be there in May 1963.

4) The Red Shoes - Kate Bush.

Dug this out having bought the recent Director's Cut on CD. It needed a good clean, as it was unplayed for over a decade and had been stored by mistake in a rather dank garage. She's re-recorded several of the songs on this, and they are interesting to hear and I may grow to love them too, but for now the original album is the winner.

Hi Bretty,

So is that Zep II and III now on vinyl? Are you enjoying the sheer heft and wonder of Zep in true analogue form? I've said it many times but I think they are one of the best examples of a well known band whose CDs are easily bettered by the vinyl versions. Sound wise on vinyl Zep II and Physical Graffiti are my favourites. Heartbreaker and The Rover are pretty unsurpassable.

No, just II. I misread the listing

You're right though, Charlie, It sounds superb on vinyl. It's a warmer mix than the CD. The bass is so deep and has got almost a funky vibe to it. And don't get me started on the kick drum! Brilliant stuff.

I had a big splurge on vinyl at the weekend, buying all the stuff i've had on my wanted list for a while. And yes, I was squiffy at the time
smiley-smile.gif
Some of the records have arrived today.

First up:

51Huj%2B6lhTL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Soundgarden - Superunkown. 2xLP promo copy.

I've been after this on vinyl forever and it rarely comes up, so I had to have it. It was nearly £40, which is steep, but the vodka in my system made it seem like a good investment. A lot of money, but I am really glad I've finally got it.

51zIvz2i%2BML._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Satchel - The Family.

This is one of my favourite albums of all time, and has been since it came out in 1996. It's just been released on vinyl, for the first time, by Music On Vinyl, so I had to get it. It's playing now, and again it's another flawless product from MOV. Not cheap, if you pay full whack (£30), but thanks to Amazon Marketplace I got it for just under £20.

51QG7FzkfSL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Queensryche - Empire

I bought this for one track; 'Silent Lucidity', which is a stonkingly good, beautiful track (check it out on youtube if you've never heard it). One of my faves from the very early nineties. The rest of the album's a bit vanilla.

51efkwCYlyL._AA300_.jpg

Jimi Hendrix - The Singles 2 x LP.

The other albums, which i'm still waiting on are:

51PWpsPhBnL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Rage against the machine - Evil Empire. Music On Vinyl Re-Issue.

51isVHv9AuL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Opeth - Blackwater Park. 3 X LP Music On Vinyl Re-Issue.

Yes, drunken buys are the best ones :) BTW, how do you find the vinyl version, Bretty? I was to bid on it on ebay, but read some posts on Steve Hoffman's forum and decided not to... excellent album, though!

It's good. It's not a huge departure from the CD version, but it has more bass weight to it.

Satchel - The FamilyAnother just brilliant MOV pressing. This label can do no wrong. Although most of their stuff isn't cheap, I think it's good value because you know they care about what they're doing, and everything they put out is perfect.

Opeth - BlackWater Park.

This arrived today and it's getting it's first spin now. The CD is a very well mastered affair, but this is better. More depth, the acoustic guitars have the light, twangy, quality that real acoustics have, the vocals are spot on and the cymbals are brilliant.

Wouldn`t mind a copy of this! Very nice indeed.
Strongly agree with you by the way regarding `Silent Lucidity`. Fantastic track which sadly got lost amongst the utter garbage that was infesting the UK charts around that time. Think it may have won or was nominated for a Grammy?

Fairport Convention - `Liege and Lief`

Been neglecting my beloved turntable of late. Here`s a classic album which was unfortunately re-issued on the 4MenWithBeards label a few years ago and it`s not a great pressing. This one if slightly better than the `Unhalfbricking` release but still not great. After three out of three poor purchases on this label all released around the same time I`m not rushing back to buy anymore. Don`t be fooled by the reviews of the album on Amazon because they are mainly for the cd version. Think it`s about time Amazon separated the vinyl and cd reviews for albums.
