OST to "Concussion"

James Newton Howard

Haven't seen the film yet (not sure if it's even out) but the soundtrack's a good listen. In places, will most certainly test out the depth and control of your bass!!

One of favourite film score composers. The OST to 'The Village' (also by JNH) is a classic.

I must admit Astral Weeks is an album that I have tried so many times over the years "to like" seeing as it is almost constantly in the top 3 of best album of all time polls ad nauseum ( see also Pet Sounds).

So far it's charms have completely passed me by. I do like quite a lot of Van Morrisons work, and  I count Moondance as one of my favourite albums ever but I just cannot get into Astral Weeks at all.

I'll play it in my van (no pun intened) at work tomorrow to see if there's any change

.
How did it go, the astral in the van?
It took me a couple of years to really get into it. Ive heard it a few times over the last couple of years, but the other day I foind myself enjoying a lot more than before. Its such a flowy album, and as far from pop song structure as you can get. Regarding moondance, ive not heard the album, but really dont dig the song.

Moondance is a lot more polished, some may say more produced, however I like the music better, found Astral Weeks to be rather inconsistant. Into the Mystic, which I'm sure you have heard is my favourite Van song.

I got to the end of track 3 then I'd had enough, and I put Live At Leeds by The Who on instead.

I've decided that's the last time Astral Weeks is coming out of its case. I probably love Moondance because of its pop song structure, and I just find AW tuneless and a hotch potch of an album.

Sorry, but I did try

*lol* that's fair enough. On another note, I bought that who album prob twenty years ago after similar poll suggestions.....no. 1 live album. Thought it was awful! Lol. So bbadly produced it sounded, which was supposed to be its strong point. Maybe bad HiFi setup at the time. But never heard since.

Not sure Big H, never been into Van really (until recent transition to A.W.). Will check out the song later, and album.

The Who Live at Leeds is one of the best live albums (along with Vans It's Too Late to Stop Now and Little Feat's Waiting for Colombus etc.) IMHO, the new version has so much more on it than the original album which did have a lot of crackling on it, worth checking out.

That's the beauty of this music malarky, we all have different ears, tastes and likes.

Personally, I think The Who's Live At Leeds is a phenomenal recording, crank the volume up and John Entwistle's bass will shake the foundations of your house. I used to have the original vinyl version with all the gubbins inside the sleeve, but now have a CD copy which has a little sticker on the case saying "Universal - Enhanced Sound Quality" whatever that might be. It's a 1995 remaster and sounds the dogs doo dahs.

The original live album was just the encore at the end of 2.5 hour concert, Townsend did not want any of the Tommy songs used. In fact he order all the previous concert recordings to be burnt and then just used 2 concerts at Leeds. Since then the other non Tommy songs have been added and then in 2001 the Tommy songs were added. I don't like Tommy, for me the first cd is great and worthy of being one of the top live albums.

I prefer the expanded Live at Leeds and in particular the 'Tommy' songs. It's all a matter of taste I suppose. I used to be in awe of Pet Sounds but can't be bothered with it now - some of the words really grate on me - taste changes over time and what i loved at 25 or 35 isnt necesserily what floats my boat today . I've always loved Astral Weeks though...

Not bad. I'm getting more into Scandavian jazz lately, Tord Gustavsen is my favourite. Was playing
Bugge Wesseltoft
earlier today. Also this is pretty good: Rainbow Sessions - Ketil Bjørnstad
