Can you help?? Unfortunately, after using the stopwatch on my ipod nano whilst out jogging, it was then put into the washing machine by mistake. Although it was soaked, I managed to retrieve it from the machine, without any visible external damage. However, it no longer works! Any suggestions please.

As I've already suggested, gentle drying out may help, but if the product was on, or was turned on by the action of the machine, fatal damage is likely. The product isn't designed to be immersed in water.

like mobile phones, if they get wet the internal circuitry starts to corrode almost immediately. Sometimes a device works fine for a few days, then stops (as the corrosion takes hold). The best course is, as Andrew suggests, somewhere warm and dry asap. It's also useful to put it in a bowl of uncooked dry rice, as that draws out moisture.

That said, a washing machine spin cycle will most likely mean it's full of suds and has take a substantial battering. At least you know what to ask santa for. Sorry!

Dropped a digital camera in a stream in Greece 18 months ago ,let it dry in the sun and it was ok the next day ,still works today

Biggest problem is the screen if water gets in it ,it will probably mess it up what u need too remember is a lot of modern electric equipment is solid state so no moveing parts {i think that includes the Nano}

I know it sounds stupid but if its got acidic water in it ,it may pay rinse it in cold water

Dont turn it on till its dry

My wife dropped her phone into water and it stopped working. We left it to dry but still no good.

About 3 months later having a clear out , picked the phone up to throw away and just tried it one moe time and worked perfectly.

So gotta be worth a try.

If the water was soapy or full of fabric softener then that is what will do the damage not the water (the first time I saw an engineer rip out and put the main circuit board of a £300,000 Grass Valley 300 Vision Mixer which had had a can of coke spilt into it under a shower was an eye opener !).

I would suggest that if it did go through a soap or fabric conditioner cycle then gently rinse it in distilled water. Then lay it on its side (or wherever there is an obvious physical gap in the casing to allow any liquid inside to drain) on several sheets of absorbent kitchen paper in a box in a warm place - if you can find some, put a couple of those silica gel sachets which manufacturers pack in with electrical goods (they are used to absorb moisture!). Don't be tempted to turn it on for several days. Also before you do, try waving a hair dryer on its lowest heat where there are any obvious joins in the case.

You have got nothing to lose really, as if it's ruined you'll have to replace it anyway so giving any of the above tips a try is worth it!

Good luck
